I would have thought that for weddings you'd be looking to get up close? Surely with a long lens you'd be too far away from the subject and unable to avoid people getting between you and them, etc? Is there something about the wedding that shouts out for a long lens?
For ceremonies, having a long lens can be a God send. It allows you to get close ups of the couple and wedding party, the reaction shots, the one of the mother of the bride tearing up, etc. So many possibilities.

Having said that, I wouldn't bother with any of those cheap zooms. They're too slow for in door use and the focus is usually not that great under poor light. If you're shooting outdoors, the cheaper zooms would probably work fine but I imagine that you'll find your 18-55mm more useful.

I can't see anything majorly wrong with those photos. As with any photo, there are improvements that can be made but none of them are what I would call disastrous.

That sounds like really bad service on their part. You're a lot more patient than me because I would be down at their offices ranting and raving like a lunatic by now.

You could have retorted that you love their prints because their printers are superb. That should rub them up the wrong way as I believe they colour correct each photo they print.

I'd be quite surprised if they came out with a new model to replace the K-7. It's not even been out a year. Then again, I've not been a Pentax user for long so I'm not familiar with their release cycles.

I agree with the suggestion. You need an ultra wide angle lens, so have a look at the Pentax DA 12-24mm (if you find the Samsung version of this lens, it's about 40% cheaper!) or the Sigma 10-20mm are good lenses to get. I have the Sigma on my Canon and it's an excellent lens.

It looks really retro. I still prefer black.

Why do people buy Amateur Photographer? It costs nearly a tenner a month and half of the magazine is filled with advertising.

That depends on whether you are referring to many of the godly American educational institutions and home schoolers, who are additionally likely to be vehemently opposed to students downloading large swathes of the sciences.

Tis blasphemy!
Let's not give in to media stereotypes. I know a number of people who home school, and they're nothing like the sort the media loves to portray. I mean if you believe everything the media sold you, you'd think that all young people in the UK were chavs and hoodies, all photographers were pedos or terrorists, etc. The truth is always more mundane.
