higher ISO meant i could do a shorter exposure...

I did try and take a shot with ISO100 but the file came out way under-exposed.

Tigh Mor is a former castle and hotel which is now owned by the Holiday Property Bond.

I was lucky enough to stay here last night and headed out in the dark armed with camera and tripod. I'm pretty un-impressed, and surprised, with the noise levels. I shot it at ISO400, but what i see here is levels of noise that i'd normally associate with at least ISO800. Should i have shot at a lesser sensitivity setting? I've shot low light before and not noticed anything near this bad.

What did you use for those pictures?
I used my K20d with the Mk2 18-55 lens.

This is one of the subs from the other side.

I'll have a go at the blown highlights in the clouds on the first two at a later date before i print them. It's good to get all the input though. It was difficult to capture though, as i was shooting more or less directly into the sun and there's a HUGE range of tonal difference in the subject.

Hi Mike...

Have given this much consideration but have decided to give it a miss. Sure it's a cracking lens, but i'm going to save the pennies up for a 12-24 or 10-20 zoom lens. I know it'll take a bit of time to be able to afford one, but i think it's more what i'm after.

Good luck selling this one though.

Anyone know if there's any way i can remove the distortion using CS4?

Would love to get a better lens, but money is very tight.

you got any full resolution sample shots taken with the lens at 16mm?

how much extra do you get in a frame compared to an 18-55?

thanks for you comments thoughton.... you know, i hadn't even noticed the footprints!!! i was too busy looking at the water sparkles and ripples in the sand!

On the "View back towards Edinburgh" shot, you can just see the subs out on the beach away out towards the water line in the centre of the pic. That shows just how low a tide you need to get good access to them. Beware the tide!!! it comes in fast.
