Optio s50 definitely records .AVI - I've had one go like this before, but I was able to fix it with a freeware file fixer. I suspect this one may be corrupted beyond 'easy' fixing and will probably require detailed knowledge of how .AVI files are laid out internally. Does anyone know where I could get more info on .AVI files

Does anyone out there know how to fix a corrupted video clip ? I have tried some of the freeware .AVI fixing programmes, but none of them have worked. They tell me that the file is not an .AVI file which leads me to conclude that it is corrupted in some way. However, I have used a file recovery program and that does find lots of frames from the missing video clip. Any ideas or is it gone for good ?

Just wondered if any of these models have a time-lapse facility ? I notice that the frame rate on my Optio S50 is adjustable to either 15 or 30 fps, so the ability to vary frame rates is there.. Wouldn't it be a useful extra to be able to vary frame timings as well to create time-lapse ? Just curious what others think ..

I have an Optio S.

If it will, are there any problems (e.g. speed)?
I have a 2Gb SD card in an optio S50 and works OK. I have heard it said that some large capacity cards don't always let you use the full available capacity but that's not the case with my S50. It will record over 34 hrs of mono sound or 1hr 14min of video at 30 frames per sec. All they need now is a battery that will last that long !

I've had my Optio S50 for about 3 and a half years now and generally been very impressed with it however it's recently got a small black blotch on the screen, although all aspects of the camrea still work perfectly - apart from the blotch on the screen. Photos & videos uploaded to my PC are still perfect. Reading this forum, I assume I must have somehow cracked the screen and 'something' has leaked out. Given that this is the case and the screen has a (tiny) crack in it ...
a) will it ever get better i.e will what's leaked out ever dry up - I assume not, but I might be wrong..
b) will it get worse - it does not appear to be getting any worse at present but might it get worse in the future ?
c) is it repairable - I assume it's probably one of those times when it will cost more to repair than it's worth..
d) Is it time to get a new camera ?

I've got an odd problem with my Optio S50 screen. A couple of days ago, I noticed a few pixels in the screen had stopped working. There were a couple of black spots on the screen. The camera still works fine. The spots are firmly fixed relative to the sreeen, but uploaded photos just taken don't show ant problem when displayed on my PC. Today, when I switched it on, there were quite a few more failed pixels, but in a sort of wiggle - not a spot or straight line - almost as though something's munching it's way through the screen in a random sort of walk ! Anyone have any idea what it might be ? Is it stopable or repairable ?
