A while ago one Pentax repair guy sold a SP1000 with self-timer on Ebay. He had add the self-timer himself. I have sometimes thought about it myself, as well as adding a mirror-lock-up... But i donīt really need either of those features (having other bodies with the features already), maybe itīs just that iīd like to "tune" something !
To add a self-timer also the plate that holds the lens mount has to be replaced with one that has holes for the timer. The SP1000 body itself has the space for the timer.
But propably your questimate is more likely
