thanks everyone, and particularly John. Even though you wouldn't be able to do my wedding, it's interesting to see as wide a variety of styles as I can find just to help get a feel for what I actually want.

Talk about a "nice day for a white wedding"!

Hi all,

My recent big news is that I proposed to my Girlfriend just before Christmas, and she said Yes!!!!

Hence wedding planning is now in full swing in the Mongoose household.

I know a few people on here are professional wedding photographers, so 2 questions

1. Are any of you (the pro wedding types that is) in the south Oxfordshire region and therefore someone I might want to talk to?

2. Any hints and tips for things to look out for in a good wedding photographer? particularly anything you think the layman may not think of.

thanks all

I believe it was only the Super Takumar's that had the radio active elements, I owned a 50mm 1.4 super Tak that had turned yellow and I didn't like the yellowy cast it left on my pics.

You need to be careful if using one of these lenses with tubes, I was taking pics of bugs at close range and they were all dropping dead of radiation sickness, One good thing though is the batteries in your camera never go flat
just watch out for greenpeace

You should not use Lithium batteries.

whats the reasoning behind this advice John? I've used Lithium double height batteries in M and A series bodies and always found them to be fantastic?

Or are you referring to Lithium batteries which might be the same size as the originals but twice the voltage?

lens coatings are optimised for a particular light wavelength so coatings like SMC which are optimised for the visible region of the spectrum will not be effective at infrared wavelengths.

An anti-reflection coating for one wavelength is a dielectric mirror at another. Just as SMC is almost perfectly transparent at visible wavelengths, there will be another wavelength band at which it is almost perfectly reflecting.

In all likelyhood IR light is somewhere in between the two extremes, but SMC wont be as helpful as it is with visible light.

To be fair, I'm technically a member of at least 10 forums (fora?) but I'm only a regular contributer on 2, the others I have between 1 and 10 posts to my name.

As someone said above, I joined every one with the intention to contribute, just only a couple actually have the combination of information, atmosphere and people to make me keep coming back.

I've put 35mm compact but actually my first camera used 126 film.

It certainly was compact, so much so in fact that the film stuck out the side and formed part of the grip!

the memory card will be as fast as an Ultra II (i.e. 5 RAW shots in burst mode from a K10). A U II is Class 4.

not quite clear what you're getting at here, the K10D has a 9 frame RAW buffer, it will shoot a 9 frame burst in RAW regardless of the card. The only difference the card makes is how long that burst takes to write to the card.

When I first got my K10D I only had 2 cards, one UltraII and one generic. I used to use the generic in the K10D and the UltraII in my DL2 because the DL2's small buffer makes card speed more relavent.

ABS + Traction Control + snow and ice = rolling out of control with no throttle and no brakes.

This is the only time of year when I miss my old Peugeot 306 XLD. Big heavy diesel engine, pull away with no throttle up to 3rd gear, no "driving aids". Anywhere that car wouldn't go was inaccessible to all but the best 4x4 drivers.

I just tried to get into my garden (which is detached, ~50m from my house) to find that the gate is jammed shut with snow and the lock is frozen solid. I can't build a snowman
