if I may chip in,

the Tamron 300 F2.8 on it's own weighs ~2.5KG

It's a big lump, but every time I've taken it out so far the results have been worth it (had mine since Nov last year).

It also makes a very nice wide field astro telescope, great for photographing faint objects such as galaxies.

taken with the Tamron 300mm F2.8 at F2.8 on my K10D and driven equitorial mounting.

edit: that's Andromeda and two of her satelite galaxies BTW.

what ammuses me is that everyone goes on about saving the planet. Now THAT is an arrogant point of view. Even if we pointed all our nukes at one spot and let them off, I doubt we'd have a major lasting effect on little old Terra, she'll happily continue to orbit as the third planet in a fairly minor solar system for her natural life of a few billion years. It's pretty unlikely we'll even manage to obliterate all life on Earth, something will survive and there's plenty of time to evolve some more animals.

What we are actually talking about has nothing to do with saving the planet, and everything to do with saving ourselves. The current inhabitants of planet Earth are under threat, not the planet herself.

I've always said that we should just axe the road tax system, and put it on the fuel instead. This has many advantages:-

You pay for what you use.
Foreigners pay for what they use.
No way to avoid paying (without stealing the fuel!).
Eliminate the cost of running it (staff, post office, website etc etc.).
Less policing to do.
Less for us to do!
etc etc.

I would much prefer if the tax disc was replaced with an insurance disc and an MOT disc. Would feel a lot better knowing that everyone was insured, had a vehicle fit for the road, rather than knowing that some other tax was paid!
I like the idea alot, replacing the tax disc with Insurance and M.O.T discs is a very sound and sensible idea.
it's the best and fairest way to do it, so it can never happen.

The only photographic equipment you will regret while in Canada is that which you left behind.

Take as many cameras and lenses as you can get hold of and fit into your bag.

The Pentax 30mm LE on the K10 is not going to be a true 30mm anyway and will not be wide enough, so, I think I have made my decison.
it will be exactly the same as the sigma, a 30mm is a 30mm.

still if the soft corners don't bother you then the price of the Sigma is a big bonus.

thanks Linus, one question do you have the Sigma 30/1.4 and if so, what body do you use and any disadvantages with it you can name.

Does anyone else have this lens:
http://www.photographyreview.com/cat/lenses/35mm-primes/sigma/PRD_335766_3111crx.aspx

from the reviews I've seen (I don't have one), the main disadvantage is that while it's razor sharp in the middle, the corners are terrible.

This seems to be my favourite choice at the moment, any experience with this lens would be greatfully received.

Cheers, Lilly

I have a Kiron 105 in PKA which unfortunately has a problem with its focus ring. It doesn't go all the way to 1:1, which is a shame. Seems to be a very nice lens though. I often toy with the idea of sending it to one of the classic camera specialists and seeing if they can fix it.
