Brian et all,

The answer was staring me in the face all the time. Under "Process Multiple Files" in Elements 5.0 there is the option to use one of several selections followed by another selection when renaming files. I saw "Document Name" under the first drop down and didn't realize that you could over type with your own desired prefix. Therefore I have just used "K100D" and then sequential "four digit serial number" as the second selection.

So my new files are K100D0001.jpg etc., and will not conflict with the previous 3600+. Just need to keep track of the last # used.

I need to pay more attention to what I am looking at.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Brian,

Thanks for the suggestions

I've already taken a few shot on the K100D testing it. Sounds like a good idea regarding the card but as you say it could affect the resale value (I never thought of that).

If I rename the existing files it will mess up the links in the Elements Organizer - reconnecting over 3600 files is a real pain - it already dates back to versions 3.0 & 4.0.

Version 5.0 allows for renaming of files on import and you can save them in date folders with a sequential serial number (there are several alternatives). My hangup was that you cannot change the date so the folder always takes the date of import not the photo date, which of course is on the exif. Hope this makes sense.

Anyway thank for the prompt help.

Having just traded my *istDS2 in for a K100D I am faced with a dilemma. I took approx. 3600 images on the DS2 and now the K100D is going to start over at image 00001 again. Does anyone know of any routine I can use to prevent the duplication. I can't find anything in the manual or my book on the K100/110D to prevent this.

Has anyone else solved this when upgrading or using more than one Pentax digital SLR. I am using Photoshop Elements 5.0

Thanks,

Mike

Mongoose,

I had forgotten that Henry's did that and when I was bemoaning the fact that I couldn't get the K10D and that the K100D was going to set me back $700 for the body the sales assistant that I always use reminded me of the offer. She checked my *istDS2 in the computer and although I was about 5 days over the one year said she would process it - obviously I didn't hesitate. There was nothing wrong with my *istDS2 but I couldn't justify having both. So far the K100D is great.

I went in to the local Henry's where I deal to ascertain the release date and price of the K10D. Their computer shows a release date of November 25 and they expect to get them in the stores a few days later. They were not sure how many each store would receive. The price is shown as CDN$1099 for the body. They indicated that the will not be offering "kits" but bodies only.

This was out of my budget, as I expected it to be, so I walked out with a K100D body. Henry's have a deal where you can trade in a camera within the first year and get " half back" towards a new camera. So I traded in my *istDS2 which was just a few days over one-year old and so far I am extremely pleased with the K100D. My main reason for wanting to upgrade was to get the shake reduction feature. Earlier this month I took over 600 pictures in Mexico with the DS2 and although they were very good I could have used the shake reduction with the longer lenses when photographing birds in flight in poor light.

I then went to the local Chapters Book store in the same mall to pick up a copy of Rick Sammon's - "Travel and Nature Photography" book and also found a Magic Lantern Guide book - "Pentax K100D/K110D" by Joe Farace - published by Lark Books. This is a 208 page guide that at first glance seems quite good.

I agree with sticking with brand names as with anything else. I have 2 1gb Sandisk Ultra 2 Plus cards (they open up to be USB compatible) that have been perfect. My son-in-law saved money and bought a "no name" 2 gb SD card for his new camera and lost almost a full card of priceless family pictures the first time he used it. The store replaced the card with a similar card but the pictures are gone and what will happen to the replacement.

The old adage of "you get what you pay for" still applies.

What Matt says about the defective electronics seems to make sense. I have tried my Sigma 105 with all the settings I could think of on the lens and DS2 that might cause the problem and it works fine - also fine on my MZ6.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

I have been using the Sigma 105 EX Macro with my DS2 for 10 months with absolutely no problems. I also have Sigma 170-500 and 70-300 APO Macro which also work flawlessly with the DS2,

What problems are you having with the lens on the DS?

Gwyn,

I think they have also changed the packaging and offer different kits since I purchased mine. The delivery was quick and the packaging superb,

I bought an Arctic Butterfly earlier this year, in case I needed one, and finally used it prior to my daughter's wedding last month. I was starting to get signs of crud in shots with good blue sky.

After following the instructions for cleaning the sensor with the DS2 I switched on the butterfly to charge the brush, switched it off, and followed the instructions to wipe the sensor. Cleaned perfectly.

To make sure I didn't accidently switch it on while cleaning I rotated it in the hand to ensure the on/off switch was out of harms way.
