At the risk of hijacking the OP's thread, would any of these long sigmas be suitable for sports. After a lot of deliberation, about a year ago, I got a sigma 50-150 F2.8 for my kids sport (swimming and football). It's OK for the swimming, but I find it a bit short for outdoor.
I'm quite keen on the Pentax 60-250, but worry that the autofocus would be too slow. Also interested in any of the above sigma's (especially at the current prices), definitely long enough, but would they be fast enough for sport, including swimming?
any thoughts appreciated

Thanks to all for the comments - very much appreciated. Battery was fully charged/discharged. Firmware up to date. Not covered by warranty. Looks like I need to replace. Better luck next time.

advice would be much appreciated. I purchased a new K-7 January '10. Not much use - only about 1800 actuations. Now the battery is failing after about 150 shot and needs recharged. Camera just jams and dies- although LCD disply remains on top - even when turned off. Works OK when recharged, but only for another 150 shots or so
Is this a faulty battery and should it still be under warranty? Just checked - £60 to replace.

Hi Barry, I was in exactly the same dilemma a few weeks ago - balancing the size / weight of the prime against the versatility of the zoom. After going round and round in circles I eventually found a compromise in the Sigma 50-150 F2.8. This suited me as I wanted something for swimming gala's. Did.nt need 200mm but did need 2.8. This my not suit your needs but so far, I have to say i am delighted with the choice. This is an excellent lens, more or less the same size as the DA 200 and, from what I could gather from the fora, on a par with the DA* 50-135.
There are still some available, and getting one new, with 3 year warranty for £400 helped the decision making.
