Well I just realised that I have changed mine since I posted here in July 2011.

My post starts "Mine is not me either, but a photo of my first dog, Keri ..."

Clearly, not a dog, but one of my many cats, Cherry Pie, reclining on one of our beach chairs. So named because as a kitten, her little white face and her little pink nose resembled a Bakewell Tart, with a bit of imagination anyway.

My wife chose the name, and it stuck.

Pretty ghastly, don't you think?
Yes, really ghastly, but then I knew it would look overly blue if trying to correct for the beard, which is why I didn't.

I think your originals look way too yellow. In my version, I've just tried to make it look more natural, and less yellow, yet retain some of the warmth of the original.

You would have had a similarly blue looking image had you chosen a tungsten WB setting. If you have the time, try setting the WB to daylight, and retake one or more of the images and see what they look like.

Just a point about the poll. If you give two choices and neither is really the right one, some may be tempted to vote randomly as that's the only way to see how the results are going. This makes the poll meaningless.

If you want a poll, then making at least one choice of "no opinion" would enable some of this to be avoided.
Good point. I haven't voted and therefore can't see how everybody else votes.

It might be nice to have a "View the poll results without voting" option within the voting system. As it is, we have to vote to view.

Good question. I had assumed a DSLR because I know he has a K30, but if the OP meant a FF film camera, then neither will be of much use for portraiture.

Well the point is I cant have both, a choice must be made so i think that a "comparison" is valid
As has been said, you can't really compare the two. You'll need to decide which you would use more or accept the compromise of a zoom.

From what you have told us about it's intended use, the 30mm would be my choice as it's a reasonable length for portraits, though not ideal, yet wide enough for most street scenes, though again, not ideal.

One thing to mention about using live view for focusing is that your battery will discharge much more rapidly.
