Not from the UK, but how on earth can they sell them at this price ? There'll be a bit of duty and VAT of course.

Absolutely right George but surely they don't have any D's left in stock by now. . . do they? Perhaps they do.

If the bosses at Pentax have the slightest idea about marketing, they won't be anything other than 'excited' about the pricing - if we heard they were 'quite glum' about it, we'd soon all feel the same way!
The article I read implied that Pentax have pitched the price to compete favourably with its percieved rivals in order to regain some of the market share they have lost in recent years . . . and that they are 'quite excited' to think they may achieve that aim.

I just hope they maintain production of it for more than the few months that seems to be the norm of late. Curiously, Pentax are still listing both the *istD and the *istDS in their current DSLR range on their revamped web site. Very odd . . . as it seems they are still 'marketing' products that are no longer in production.

The K10D will use SD cards. There is a device available that is an SD to CF adapter that would mean you can standardise on one type of card for your *istD and any other Pentax DSLR.

With regard to price, I have read somewhere that Pentax bosses are 'quite excited' with the pricing of the D's replacement. I'm betting it'll be around £800 body only. I'm also guessing we will not see them in UK this side of Christmas.

BTW: I wouldn't mention how good you think the Canon IS system is to anybody who has a dead one . . . and I believe there a quite a few

My money is on the in-body anti-shake system . . . and a stirdy tripod . . . not necessarily in that order

So, did anybody on here buy one ?

I was tempted but my wallet ran away and hid.

It was certainly an excellent price. It begs the question, will the K10D be offered for sale on QVC also. I hope so to get a great price. I also hope not, for the image (no pun intended) that will be portrayed. It'll shift it fairly and squarely into the consumer market if they do.

The pacsafe is a brilliant piece of kit except . . .

I have three of the SB model which I use to keep my kit safe. The only problem I have found is that straps tend to get caught up in the mesh when the bag is on its way into, or out from, the mesh. They are excellent for keeping your kit safe though, I lock mine in the boot of the car when I'm out, but they are not very good for rapid access to your kit for the reason explained.

They are much cheaper on ebay if you are prepared to wait. I paid no more than £10.00 for each of mine. Just search for pacsafe.

The Travelsafe 100 & 200 bags are also excellent for keeping stuff secure. They are a plastic bag with the pacsafe webbing sandwiched between them. Great for keeping loose items safe in the car, camper, caravan, or home. The travelsafe 200 is large enough for a 15" screen laptop. I bought all of mine from seller id "wolvesareking". She only has these last 2 items at the moment, worth an 'ask the seller a question".

You are welcome. I'm happy to know that the three days I spent figuring out my tube problem has eventually helped somebody else

I hope to see some of your work here very soon . . . .

Cheers,

I had the same problem with my istDS/18-55mm DA and a set of PKA tubes (Jessops I think). You may find that the end of the tube that the lens attaches to is chromed but the body mount end is painted (read insulated). In my case, the camera and lens had more contacts than the tubes. The remedy I chose (cheaper than a new set of tubes) was to carefully scrape away some of the paint on the body mount end of each tube to reveal the aluminium underneath. They work perfectly now, even when using more than one.

Hope that helps.

Thanks George, much more descriptive. Sometimes I'm a bit economical with words.

Ratcatcher, A simple way to see your colour image in B&W is to import it into Photoshop or similar. Find the colour saturation control and set it to zero (IE: no colour) you are left with a B&W (greyscale) version of your image. This saturation adjustment can (and arguably should) be on a separate layer which you can then turn on & off as you prefer.

I'm no expert user of Photoshop but I think you can also switch channels to view only the B&W content or there is menu option somewhere to convert your image to B&W. You'll have to experiment to find out which suits you best.

Its not necessary to do any conversion from colour to B&W in-camera. Its best done during post-processing where a better job can be achieved (arguably).
