Good news.

I don't think your email address is on the site - or if it is, it's well hidden.

Pete,

The only communication that the camera has with a wireless off-camera flash is via the light from the on-board or compatible flash attached to the hot shoe. You MUST use the onboard flash or another AF360/540FGZ.

You can set the onboard or hot shoe flash to be a wireless controller so that it does not contribute light to the scene (not very much anyway).

When set as a wireless master, the onboard or hot shoe flash does contribute light to the scene.

The only other way is to use a radio flash trigger system., transmitter fitted to hot shoe and receiver attached to flash.

Make sure that SR is turned off when using a tripod to make these tests.

It occured to me that in his test shots, more of the image above (behind) the centre line is in focus than there is in front (below) but the actual centre line does appear to be in focus, as far as I can see anyway. Has hyperfocal distance got something to do with this?. It wouldn't explain the differences between two camera bodies though.

John has already mentioned that the test chart is not consistently straight and parallel to the lens axis which renders some of the shots less than conclusive.

Having repeated the experiment with FA 50mm 1:1.4, FA 100mm Macro 1:2.8, FA 28-200mm lenses (all wide open) and a seismically rock solid tripod together with cable release . . . no focussing issues here. The 50mm produces slightly softer images wide open but that's expected from this lens. The 100mm Macro is tack sharp.

Interesting afternoon.

Chris, I get very similar results as you with my FA 50mm 1:1.4 lens. The lower 2mm marker is sharper than the upper one.

More testing to do . . . using a cable release this time.

For the avoidance of doubt, I was referring to the giant, not Chris.

Erm, actually Homo Sapien. Problem arrises because there are a very large number of sub divisions none of which are very clear. Almost very new skeleton is given a different name but, that is all it is; a name.
Excuse me but . . he looks more like a Homo Erectus to me . . unless he was just pleased to see Chris and yet another camera.

Use the AF360FGZ in wireless mode, you (or an assistant) can point it where you want to then.
