The VAT rate in Japan is only 5%, and Pentax goods have an import duty slapped on them too, which is why they are more expensive in Europe.

I thought that in the absence of sdm contacts the lens would work on the screw drive as it does on my K110d.
Never mind onward and upwards
I think you must be mistaken. The 1.7x AF adapter can't possibly focus the lens fitted to the front of it on any camera because there is no screw drive on the female side of the adapter, only on the male side.

Keep in mind that it was originally designed for use with MF lenses in the first place, the adapter providing the AF.

I can't identify it from that photo. A bigger shot showing the whole tree might be better.

What I do know is that those flowers will come to nothing unless there is a male tree close by. Palm trees are either male or female and need each other for the female to produce fruit.

If I was brave enough, which I'm not, I'd try loading the K-01 firmware on a K-5.
One of the biggest issues here is that these two cameras are fundamentally very very different, despite what their outside visual displays might suggest.

They run on different processor types and as such are never going to be particularly compatible. Think software developed for apple computers trying to run on a windows machine, they're that different. The control strategies may be the same, but how they are coded is quite different.
Well thank goodness you've talked me out of trying, not that I was ever going to. I may be daft but I'm not stupid

It's not likely that camera manufacturers will retrofit function enhancements to older models. They're in the business of selling new gear rather than prolonging the life of older stuff. And to think my Super-A lasted 20+ years and they never did issue a firmware update for that

If Ricoh were to release their code for serious developers they'd get a darned good idea of the features we actually want. Focus peaking on the K-5/II/IIs would be a great start. In fact it'd be a cool upgrade for any body equipped with Liveview.

I doubt it'll ever happen though.

Yes they have. Somebody tried to put K100D firmware on a K100D Super.

C'mon David, where's your sense of adventure?

I'm not seriously proposing to do it, but wouldn't it be great if we had proficient software hackers to customise our camera firmware like they do at XDAdevelopers for phones.

Why not pick the best bits of all the DSLR's and mash them all up into one killer firmware update, maybe literally . . . killer from the camera's viewpoint of course

Open source firmware is what we need and an SDK with all the proprietary stuff to help.

Don't forget that the 60-250mm has a max aperture of f4 compared to the faster f2.8 of the 50-135mm. Not much of an issue if you don't do much low light work.

For similar money, I'd probably go for this. Faster focussing, faster max aperture, ability to set OS for panning (which you can't do with in body SR), ideal for motorsport. Well, actually I did and haven't used my 60-250mm since.

And by pure coincidence, this pops up for sale.

Absolutely nothing to do with me, but do consider it. It's not the fastest focussing lens in the Pentax DA* line up, but neither is the DA* 300mm.
