I think I tend to agree with George, the ideal lens would depend on your particular style of shooting, personally I dont think I would ever use anything wider than my 16-50.

Simply shooting with a kit lens for a few months should tell you which lens you need next, ie do you often feel the need to go wider or longer.
My kit lens fits the bill for image width, it just lacks range and possibly quality.

I dont think I need anything wider than 16mm, but I find myself torn between the 17-70 f4 and the 16-50 f2.8. The 16-50 i think would be a much better lens as its weather proof and has SDM, but the 17-70 has alot of extra reach. So its whether I want lens quality or versatility.

Anyone have these lenses and care to share their experience with them?

Dont know which lenses yet, ordering Monday morning with 24 hr delivery.

Currently between the 16-45 f4 and the 16-50 f.28.

I was going togo for the 10-20mm, but I think I will get a 14mm prime at a later stage for wider shots.

Thanks for the welcome

I still use the MX every now and again, but vivitar series 1 is the oldest bit of kit I use on a daily basis.

I am sorry but you are talking rubbish.

If you want to know why pentax "is dying/is not making any more highend bodies/is being sold" why dont you ask the idiot that told you this in the first place.
I was only questioning what I have been told, no need to be so aggressive.

Now the new sigma 10-20 offers HSM for pentax models and also f3.5 throughout the zoom range.

Do we need HSM as pentax owners? I cant see why we would and although f3.5 is very nice, I won't really need it for landscape shots.

So my question is, as a Pentax user, is it worth paying the extra for the new 10-20 for shooting landscapes?

Oh not that again

Scaremongering, probablly started by someone who wished they'd bought Pentax for all the features it offers.
I thought as much, just wanted to double check

There is also the new DA15mm if you want the lightweight option, I have just purchased one, but yet to really put it to use, a much smaller and lighter option than the 14mm.
If I was going for a wide prime for landscapes, I would go as wide as possible. Ill look into the 15mm though as I know the 14mm lens is massive!

Now I really love my Pentax camera, but after what a few people have said to me about "pentax is dying" I just wondered if anyone can shed any light on the situation.

I love my K20D and I love how cheap it was! I couldn't find a better speced camera for under £1200. Now people have told me that pentax are likely to stop making high end bodys, is this true?

I see hoya are selling Pentax and this just added to my worries. I want to keep using Pentax kit, but I don't want to be investing money when I might have to change brands in the near future.

I hope what I have heard is false, as I want to keep my K20D and when the successor to the K7 comes out, ill buy iy

The 18-55 I have is great simply because of its versatility.

Thats why I think I may be leaning towards the 16-45 or the 17-70. The 17-70 sacrifices 1mm but gains quite a bit more reach.

Thinking about it I may get the 17-70 for now, then invest in a 10-20 at a later stage. My 70-210 vivitar suits my zoom needs for the time being and is razor sharp!
