I have a Sigma 18-200mm DC 3.5-5.6 atm and use 50mm focal length for alot of protaraits i do

i'm just wondering how much better a 50mm 1.4 would really be?

the images i take are aready really good and sharp and have plenty of detail i my opinoion

i'm just not sure that spending another three hundred dollars to upgrade to that lens is really worth it

whats the difference really? apart form the faster aperture steting which really isnt' all that useful anywya, because f5 is enough, but i guess it would help in low light situations i guess

heres a sample pictures from my 18-200 and i think its perfect. how much better can it possibly get?

does anybody know if i can adjust the flash strength of this camera?

becaues i've digged aroudn teh menu and looksed at the manual and it doesn't seem like they do

the reason i ask is that when taking portraits of people on a sunny day, i need to meter the sunny background and use the in-built flash to make sure the subjects are not under-exposed

but when i used the flsh, the subjects always turn out to be overexposed and white looking

what does flash compensaation do anyway? i think it would just create a general underexposure in teh whole image and not fix my problem

cheers fellas

hahaha no way i could get that close to a wild kangaroo

it was taken at a wildlife sanctuary, where the kangaroos are very used to people touching them, feeding them and taking pictures of them

I have a Pentax K100D Super

I took this with a Sigma 18-200mm at focal length of about 80mm

f4.5 and was about 30 cm away from his head, was pretty lucky he didn't move

its my favourte phto to date, what i love iabout it is that you can see my repfelction in his eye, which i reckon is really cool

i think the bokeh is very good, and from what i've read the reviewers revkon the 18-200 has crap bokeh

Hi guys, I have a Sigma 18-200mm, and take alot of portraits. its 50:50 portaits:landscapes

i've found anything below 35mm creates too much barrel distortion with the person's face

what the best focal length to take portraits with that lens?

and should i pony up for a 50mm 1.4? they're about $300AUD, which is alot of money

whats the best lens for taking portraits with? i would often be indoors in low light situations. i'm not even going to consider an external flash for the time being. although i know i should get one eventually for the portrait work.

cheers fellas

PS. do you guys have any tips for taking portraits? without a full on studio

i've read some reviews of the Sigma EF-500

and about 40% of them, out of about 30 or so user reviews

they said that the Sigma tsopped working after about a year, it just stopped wkring and wouldn't fire anymore

so be wary
