Lilly - when you say heavy (you can tell I'm being tempted here) does it subjectively feel as heavy as the Sigma 10-20 say?

Mike
Mike, it weighs in at 430gm as opposed to 455 for the 10-20 and around 2/3rds of the size of the 10-20. Same build as the 10-20 too.

I do wish you people would stop taking about this Sigma 30/1.4 I feel the urge coming on. The Pentax 50/1.4 is a bargain but too long for general use IMO but a 30 ...

Mike
Yes, I got a feeling I am going to end up with a heavy bag of primes!

Lot's to do at the moment...

just working over hours, moving to another flat, renovating.
Today I also have to shoot a few pictures at my colleges wedding.
Therefor, no time for example pics.
One (my) thought: What's the use of the worlds best lens if I can't afford it?
The Sigma 30/1.4 does pretty good for me since I concentrate on persons not on architecture.

Thank you, the same conclusion that I have now come to, it comes down to horses for courses. I actually went into Jessops yesterday and luckily they had a 30mm 1.4 on display, on a Canon though.
However, had a play and the angle of view is just what I am after, like you I do a lot of people, indooor shots, low light. It's a bit heavy but a nice feel to it. The fact that the outer edges are a bit soft, won't really bother me I believe, as I like to play around with the whacky DOF in my images, like the 50mm. The Pentax 30mm LE on the K10 is not going to be a true 30mm anyway and will not be wide enough, so, I think I have made my decison.

Razorsharp in the middle, slightly wider.

thanks Linus, one question do you have the Sigma 30/1.4 and if so, what body do you use and any disadvantages with it you can name.

Does anyone else have this lens:

This seems to be my favourite choice at the moment, any experience with this lens would be greatfully received.

Cheers, Lilly
Yeah basically, from all the reviews i have read, its one of the sharpest lenses around in the centre (Sharper than the 31LTD at F/2.8-5.6), but by the corners its one of the worst for sharpness. Its okay if your looking for heavy DOF where the centre is going to be in focus and the corners bokeh, but as a plain wide angle lens its a no go.
Thanks, that food for thought, Mmmm.. shame too, I was dead keen on that one, didn't think it was going to be this hard to find the man for the job, bum! Seems I got to trade the edges for the middle or spend a whole heap more.

Has no one out there got this lens? SIGMA 30mm f1.4 EX DC

I really love my 50mm 1.4 (on the K10D is more like 75mm?), but now I am beginning to find the focal length is not wide enough for interior shots.
Has anyone any suggestions, min. f/1.4 - 1.7 that would be suitable, there are so many out there, I wd pay up to about £300.

Oh what a controversial discussion this has become, over a few very good, in my view, mono images. I suppose as it is my undying passion I cannot resist to say a few words.
Why, do we feel the need to pigeon hole everything and try to explain the reason why we do as we do?
All things have a time and a place for all, surely ..........lets just enjoy that we can?

I like K adore mono and like our great forebearers, we have for some reason a connection to that past and fortunately have the eye for it.
Tis a shame that not all, have the 3rd or 4th mono eye, whatever.... that can translate a color image before us and be able to envisage the final product at the end of the day, in the dark or lightroom.
At the end of the day we do as we DO... the King is dead, long live the King...

ps) some like Indian and some like Chinese, what are we trying to prove?
