Hi.. I am having a problem using the Pentax Browser software that came with my K100D. Now I'm usually quite good with software having been using photoshop and quark etc on Macs as a graphic designer for about 15 years...
but this Browser software has got me baffled...
I open the program go to a folder in the folder tree which I know to have my Raw images in and click open.... Now what I would have thought i would see is a screen filled with thumb nails of the raw pics in the folder. But what I get is a Mac window showing the individual raw files... I click on one and get a full screen of the one pic.... How the hell do I get a screen showing all the pics as thumb nails... like in iphoto? I know I'm missing something obvious!
cheers in advance
Lee

Wow... that definately answers my questions!
So it seems by what you're saying that unless you can afford a Leica, Pentax are the best for backwards compatibility. The reason I'm asking all this is because I recognise the value of good lenses but am finding it difficult to afford the latest high quality lenses designed specifically for digital cameras... so my reasoning was that if my aim is primarily image quality and I don't necessarily require the automated functions... I could achieve this aim more cheaply using older good lenses.
Is my reasoning correct? Or are the latest good lenses much better all round than the old if you can afford them?

Mongoose... Seeing as we're on this subject and you obviously know a so much about it... Can you tell me if Nikons, Canons and Olympus DSLRs work with their respective 'old' Manual Lenses as well as the Pentax K100D seems to.
Sorry for the quizzing, I'm just really interested in understanding this as I am so new to DSLR...

Thanks again...

Hi. again....I have just searched and read a few threads on here regarding the use of Manual Pentax lenses on the K10D and the problems that have ensued... I was wondering if other manufacturers DSLR's work well with the Pentax manual lenses. It is just curiosity really as I have always stuck with Pentax cameras, but do Nikons for example perform as well as my K100D seems to with the older Pentax glass?
Cheers Lee

great as the K10D is, if you want to use M series lenses you are actually better off with the K100D.

The K10D has metering issues with the old lenses which makes using the M lenses with it a pain. You can get the hang of it's idiosyncrasies, but it's much easier on the K100D which meters properly with old glass. This is the only major flaw in an otherwise dangerously close to perfect camera. Perhaps it was designed by Persians?
Thats very re-assuring to know. Theres nothing worse than that niggle in the back of your mind that you bought the wrong thing.
After reading your advice I had a play with the camera and was, again, surprised and impressed with how it can be adapted to the way you want to use it. Its a little tricky holding the lever on the shutter button round and turning the wheel and the aperture at the same time but it works brilliantly. (Tell me if I'm still missing something) At least I don't have to irrevicably butcher my lovely Pentax-M lenses
Anyway I think I shall really benefit from this forum, already I have learned something valuable

Hi Don... Thanks for the advice. I was working on a fairly tight budget and would have liked to buy the K10D... I shall aspire to that! I am probably not alone in thinking older lenses are the cheapest way of using good glass. This became immediately apparent when comparing the K100D kit lens with my M prime lenses...
I am so impressed with this camera though... fantastic.. I can't imagine what the K10D does that is better!
I have a Yamaha XT600E at the moment but I'm after a GSXR750

Hi Mongoose..
Thanks for the reply... I will read it again carefully later and work through what you've said! I really did like using the aperture ring on the lens like with my K1000 but it is a bit cruel chopping bits off very good Pentax lenses I admit!
I shoot Air rifles.. HFT mainly (FT without the great big scopes!) I'm currently shooting for Theoben in this years UKAHFT. I saw some guys at Bisley shooting black powder guns..... LOUD or what

Is it not a popular route using M lenses on DSLR's then?

Hi guys...
As this is my first post, I would just like to introduce myself...
My name is Lee, I'm 43 and live in Norfolk, UK. I'm a graphic designer by trade and am interested in Target shooting and Motorbikes as well as photography.
I have a question straight away that I'm sure you'll all be able to help me with....
I recently bought a K100D having before used film SLR's. I already have a number of Pentax-M lenses so obviously would like to use them on the Digital camera. I really like using SLR's manually so the older lenses suit me well.
The only thing is to get aperture control you have to cut off the lever on the inside end of the lens... now I haven't done this with any of my Pentax lenses yet, only with an old cheap one. What I achieved by doing this was what I wanted though... controlling the aperture with the aperture ring.

My question... is there a less barbaric way of achieving the same thing or is this the only way?
I would appreciate any advice on using the Manual lenses on the K100D...

Thanks in advance. And I look forward to my stay here
Lee
