No, you would be wrong in suspecting it is quite similar.

You would be right in suspecting it is very similar!
Would it be, by any chance.... exactly the same?

Hi guys... am I right in suspecting that the Samsung GX10 is quite similar to the K10D? I've not seen one up close... are they any good, they're a lot cheaper than the K10D?

When I was thinking about a DSLR I looked at the Nikon and canon but opted for the Pentax... partly because of brand loyalty, partly because it felt really nice when I picked it up and I understood it immediately. Also I could use all my manual Pentax glass. But also I don't like being one of the masses so I'm always drawn to the minority brands....
I like being more of an individual... it feels like it was my choice not the majorities.

Hi... I've recently been reading 'The Digital Photography Book' by Scott Kelby. One of the pieces of advice he gives for getting Tack Sharp images is to use a tripod. He goes further to say that it is more or less essential if you want to avoid blur. Now even though I can see that what he is saying must be true, a tripod would really spoil the spontineity (Spelling) of photography for me. I tend to go out with my camera in a bag with a couple of lenses and thats it! But, partly acknowledging what he says I went for a compromise and ordered a Manfrotto 679 Monopod and swivel head which I figured is easily carried and doubles as a walking stick.
I must admit I have been getting more aware of the need for sharpness in my pictures recently and whilst trying not to become obsessed I have found myself resting the camera and leaning into things more. I'm hoping that the combination of Shake reduction and the Monopod will be a good compromise... How many of you guys use a monopod instead of lugging around a tripod, and how have you found it?
Cheers

I was lucky enough to pick up a SMC M 3.5 135mm in mint condition for £5 a few years back. I find it a superb handling lens, mechanically very well made and very compact. I have used it to take many pictures of the kids as they have grown up, the extra focal length I find ideal for more candid portraits.
This is my favourite lens at the moment, I paid £15 for mine though

Hi,

I've just purchased the Samsung 50-200 and i have to say i am very pleased with it! I did alot of research on here and other forums and all reports were good... What a bargain lens!

I got mine here...

There is a certain amount of speculation as to whether this is an 'exact' copy of the pentax, but i think it is... i even suspect it has SMC coating, but Samsung are not allowed to label it as such.

Go for it!

Dave
That is an amazing price for that lens

If you don't need AF, and can live without zooms, stick with what you have. The only problem is that you lack a wide-angle (the 28 is equivalent to 42 on digital).

G
Yes I do lack the wide angle... thats part of the reason for asking this question... The 14mm and 18mm M lenses can still cost a fair bit so with the limited budget I have to choose between the 50-200mm DA or a good 14/18mm M lens.

Hi... I don't wish to bore you all with my deliberations but I am still wondering which lens route to go. I have a number of Pentax SMC-M Prime lenses... 28mmf2.8, 50mmf1.7, 50mmf2, 135mmf3.5 200mmf? and also a Vivitar 70-300mmf4.2. I can't decide whether to buy the Pentax 50-200mm DA lens and use it along side my 18-55mm kit lens or continue working with the old Manual prime lenses, adding to that collection and use the kit lens for 'auto' days.
Buying new Prime lenses is out of the question as I just don't have that sort of money, so which route is going to give me the best quality pictures, as that is what I'm after. Since reading this forum I have realised that there is such a lot to a good picture.... so your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dan... Thanks for the reply... The problem is I'm not sure how the Pentax Browser is supposed to work so its difficult to tell if I've got it wrong... if ya see what I mean

I normally use iphoto for jpegs but as far as I can tell it wont display raw images. All I want to do is upload and look at what I've taken as a gallery of thumbnails before I convert anything to Tiff... is that what Pentax Browser does?
