This is very interesting as i kave a K5 that is now rather battered (it didn't like the arctic in winter!)

I may have to start saving for a K3 as a lot of the issues i have seem to be addressed by the K3.

Thank you

Kodak Pro Image 100 is a great film

I shoot a lot of nature and outdoors stuff, so Ektar is my favourite, but Pro Image is lovely and cheaper!

Washi X is super too - basically a Kodak emulsion, snazzed up a bit. It veers towards the red/orange side, so looks lovely and warm. I did find out that sunsets can go really wild with it as the red takes over.

Ektachrome slide film is great, but so expensive, especially when you throw in developing. There is something about having mini-actual photos though that still makes me want to shoot more, but my wallet won't let me, so i save it for special occasions.

only reading this have i realised there is no shutter lock!

The K1000 is much maligned, but seldom bettered really. The ME series are good, until the battery goes and you have no spare. Then there is the winding problem with them.

AW are good, but i have been moving away from them.

Some other camera shops have better prices, just maybe not the range.

As for developing, never tried them, but i use Analogue Films in Spitalfields - they also have film for sale too, often cheaper than AW.

i develop B&W myself. once you have the kit it's much cheaper.
For colour i use a lab near work in East London called Analogue Films, they also have some stock for sale and are reasonably priced (cheaper than AW, but a more limited stock).
Analogue Films do B&W processing too.

as much as the Lomo "hipster" element bugs me (although they have done a good job in helping film come back into favour) their "Don't Think Just Shoot" motto (which is also printed on the backing paper of their 120 film) is pretty good advice.

one reason i tend not to delete (digital) shots is because it may look rubbish on the back of the camera, but, in time, it will have a different meaning. it was that moment, caught forever, faults and all.

thanks all for the LX tips. I found a similar thing on the viewfinders yesterday, very handy indeed as i had my eye on an "affordable" one online, only to see it was just the eyepiece!

A Pentax LX film camera.

Hankered after one for a while and after having various M series ones break (the last MX didn't fare well in Arctic Norway in November) i took the plunge when Jonathan had one for sale on the forum.

Shot two rolls of Kentmere 100 on a walk by the river, one in Auto mode, the 2nd in manual mode. The negs look good and the camera is a joy to use, very solid and just 'right'.

The only problem is fitting a strap as they did away with standard lugs, but i managed to find some online.

quite tempted by the waist-level viewfinders... if i can find and afford one!

Great dealing with you, Jonathan.

Shot two rolls of Kentmere 100 yesterday - one in Auto mode and the other on manual. All look great - haven't scanned the negs yet, but no blank frames. It feels completely different to the other Pentax film cameras (M series mainly), much more solid to hold and shoot with.

It's a great idea... i shoot B&W film a lot (mainly as colour film has been hard to get and is now expensive) an this looks lovely.
But.
B&W film have different characteristics and that will be missing. I appreciate you can change tonal shift, etc, but, for me anyway, part of B&W is in the film characteristic - the silvery sheen of Cinestill BWXX, the grungy feel of Fomapan, the creamy tone of many Ilford films, the crazy contrast of some of the experimental films and the dreamy tones of other (Washi film, I am looking at you here), etc.

Also... wish I had the money to buy one!
