These are fantastic!! Cars are quite difficult to get "right" IMO, but you have nailed it here, especially that MG shot! That is a cracker!

I went to Sydney's Taronga zoo over the weekend to try out my new DA*60-250 and see how it fared with the zoo animals.

Here are some examples, some of which were shot wide open on both the DA*60-250 and the DA*300.

K20D + DA*60-250 f4 @ f5.6 & 250mm, 1/30sec, ISO400.

Don't worry Lance, you will soon get used to the new button layout / menus etc. After a couple of weeks with it, I'm moaning every time I pick up my K20!
Trust me, I don't care how long it takes me to get used to the new menu as I will do it if it kills me!!! This camera is too nice to handle to worry about insignificant things like getting used to the menu!

Quote:
Glad you mentioned the handling, most people won't appreciate it til they hold one, then it just gets under your skin!
Under your skin? It is almost pornographic how nice it is to handle. It reminds me of handling the old Takumar and Pentax K, M and A lenses as they are so nice just turning the focus ring and feeling the smooth beautiful engineering that went into them.

I can see myself just holding the camera and feeling the quality whenever I need a "fix".

Have you pre-ordered one yet!?
Yep, it's supposed to be in the first batch to be delivered to CR Kennedy Australia in mid to late July.

I am really sorry for not advising you, Steve. I would have loved to have caught up with you in person.

Any idea when it will be released here Lance : I have heard mid July but nothing confirmed.
Mid July at the earliest and every shipment of K7's has been spoken for to all the dealers for the next 6 months!

Where are you planning on buying yours :
I am "allowed" to get it from CRK as I have a deal with them and also I have a friend that works there. Not only that, I am afforded some leeway due to the fact that Pentax USA "crowned" me "Pentaxian 2008" to which they gave me a DA*300 and K20D for using my LBA "slogan".

I was lucky enough to have a try of the new K7 at Sydney's PMA, yesterday.

If nothing else, I believe people will buy this camera simply for the way it feels in the hands, the solidness that it imparts and the beautiful build quality. It really handles nicely and feels like a solid little block.

The only issue I could find is that the layout is quite different which means getting used to it. Other than that, I am highly impressed. AF was fast, and exposure accuracy results looked spot on.

Can't wait to get mine!

I had the DA16-45 and it was an excellent lens, so if the DA17-70 can match it's performance, then it should be a winner.
I have both
Here's my thoughts from use (not from scientific test):
* 17-70 is sharper than the 16-45
* The bokeh is much smoother on the 17-70. I definitely prefer this.
* 16-45 seems to have less distortion at the wide end
* 16-45 has less vignetting at the wide end
* 17-70 is SDM, of course
* 70mm end is excellent - especially for portraits etc
* 16-45 physically extends at 16mm end producing really wacky close up wide angle shots!
* 17-70 has 0.31x mag as opposed to 0.26x
* 17-70 is 485g as opposed to 365 (17-70 certainly feels more solid too!)
* Some report high CA on the 16-45.

Overall I am very please with the 17-70. It's an excellent walkabout lens with superb capabilities
One day I might do a side-by-side image comparison

Enjoy the lens John!!

Matt
Thank you for your thoughts and report on the DA17-70, Matt. If it is as good as you say it is, I may get one myself.
