Excellent capture, Paul. Both in B&W and colour work well for me.

I have used mine in the rain a few times:

This is a shot of the weather conditions taken with the DA*50-135 f2.8:

You say that this is from 1982? Are there figures for current lenses?

Very nice. A worthy inclusiojn to PPG.

Another interesting thing is that the camera's SR thinks that it is still a 300mm lens, not a 420mm lens and therefore the SR still worked very well at about 4 stops of extra handholdability.

Looks like a good result.

Personally though, I've found that if you've got a decent lens to start with (which the DA*300 clearly is), then the same or better image can be had by cropping and resizing.

Of course, cropping doesn't always give you a big enough image for things like stock photo libraries who are often very picky about image size. In that situation, only a longer lens would do, but for most people, it shouldn't matter that your cropped image is smaller.
As I answered to George Lazerette, cropping in this case may have impacted too greatly on the noise as it was shot at ISO1600.

As for other instances, then maybe cropping is the answer, but we would need to do a comparo.

Anyway, it still shows off the quality of the DA*300 and the good noise result that can be obtained from the K-7 with the right post processing.

Very nice, but it would have been interesting to see a shot without the T/C, cropped and resized to the same dimensions.

The question being, is it better to use the T/C or to enlarge an image without using the T/C.

In this case it would mean enlaging the noise as it was shot at ISO1600. In these scenarios, it may be best to use the TC.

As for either cropping or enlarging in other cases, I guess a test would need to be carried out.

Thank you, Matt. This is a very small image and all that Pentax forums seems to allow. The original is 1300 pixels wide and is even more impressive.

Here is a test shot of our dalmatian, Pepper taken with the DA*300 f4 + Tamron 1.4x TC @ ISO1600 and handheld 1/60sec, f5.0 (f7 converted). Little bit of Noiseware Professional noise redustion and sharpening. Not bad, eh?

Looks like the 1.4x TC does work with the DA*300 and K-7. I did have a bit of trouble with focusing of the DA*300 f4 and Tamron 1.4x TC combo on the K20D, but seems ok with the K-7. The DA*60-250 f4 + Tamron 1.4x TC also works ok on the K-7.
