This photo was taken down in Dagenham Dock. I was in Dagenham visitin' a photographer friend of mine.

I'd also be curious to see what the same shot taken with a small aperture would look like, with the fence sharp . Perhaps it wouldn't work, with the interlocking pattern wrecking that of the containers. But I'd be curious to see it. Did you try this?

What's it look like in colour Paul with all those containers?

A good shot, I love that pattern created by the containers and the fence. However, I do find a couple of things distracting: The block of white sky top right, and something that's on the ground bottom left.

If it wasn't for these distractions and the photograph just showed the pattern of the containers and fence, I would like it very much.

Mhuni, my intention was to keep the fencin' out of focus, I didn't want it vyin' too much with the containers. As a result, I don't have an image with the fencin' in focus.

Dave, the container colours were blue, grey and yellow. I'll post a colour shot too, so you can see.

Fiona, thanks. I don't find the things you mention distractin', even though this image has abstract elements, it is still a scene of an industrial landscape.

Why do you make that assumption?

I really like the photograph.

I live around the corner and it perfectly captures the mood of the area.

I haven't looked at the colour version as the mono version is right (imo)

I also like the abstracts - the way the white sky impacts on the fence, that the fence separates the viewer from the bleak scene and maybe, there's someone under the tarp on the floor?

Plus it reminds me why I used to get through so many rolls of FP4 in my pre-digital days!

Cheers, MZ. I have family that live in the Dagenham East area. I know Barking, Upney, Becontree and Dagenham Heathway well. In fact, I walked all the way down to Dagenham Dock via the Heathway, and back again.

There are some colourful flats/ apartment buildings in Barking now. I think they've put in a Hotel near the station, to cope with the Olympic fallout haven't they? It does look odd with Barking havin' a hotel now though.

Gettin' back to the photo, Dagenham Dock is like a ghost town over the weekend. Barking Power Station is nearby also, which I have a photo of too, taken awhile back.

Like both the colour and the B&W - the B&W seems to emphasize the lines and patterns, the colours are surprisingly harmonious and restful which for me kills the pleasing graphic elements of the B&W – my preference being the B&W as the composition and designs out ways the colour.

I think that the patterns are better served by B&W than by colour, though I suspect the colour one would look rather better without the fence.

So for me, like Jackie, B&W outweighs colour.
