How does a mirror lens compare to other lenses?
I've seen a cheap 500mm mirror lens and just wondered how they perform (quality etc..) against normal prime lenses and is it worth buying?
Thanks

To me many of your images look un-natural, more postcardy in quality as opposed to an actual photograph.
Sorry to sound so negative.

Not so long ago I had a remark: "if you don't want to judge, don't enter the competition. It was suggested as a unwritten rule, in the same spirit as the other unwritten rules.
Is a competition only for competent amateur photographers who have been around for a while? That would be grossly unfair and discriminative.
How do we educate the judges? If there are no rules to go by? The way things are going now (Newbies who only enter the competition, without being active on the forum and only pronounce the winner without any form of C & C) I see this competition dying a soft death. Is that what we want? For me it is clear, and I have decided to follow the same path as Lilly did. From now on I won't enter the competition until we have the guarantee that at least every entrie gets a few words in the form of some C & C from the judge.
Why does the winner of the competion have to be the judge too?
Why can't the winner just chose the subject of the next competition and leave the judging to others: For example by creating a poll where all members can vote. (What I feel is the best photograph may not be what everyone would consider to be a winner, a poll will give each member one vote. most votes = winner).
Just my though without discriminating against newbies to photography (like myself)

I still do not like this new forum.
I do visit other forums (non photographic) and I am impressed with some of those.
Here's a few of my moans:-
1. The ads on the right are a big put off and take up too much space.

1. The ads on the right are a big put off and take up too much space.
2. Why can't I change the font colour or size?
3. Why can't I see who's on-line or how many are on-line?
4. Why is there "Recent Forum Comments" and also "New Posts" ? Are they not the same? The answer is no but why are they different?
5. Why does it say "Editted" on my posts when I only corrected my spelling mistakes (give us at least 2 minutes after the post/comment)
I'm sure there are other moans and groans but it's 1.51am and way past my bedtime.

I also feel, from a safety point of view, that it is safer because black does not stand out or reflect light as chrome does. (Beware the muggers)!)Just a thought ....
ps I'm impressed with those MZ-S and MX images.

Thanks Glyn for all the comments, and yes I am a Doctor Who fan.
I have several desktops which I use and threw this one in as I thought it would be different.
Great judging and deserved winner.
