Well Kay, you sure started something!

Ha Ha!! Glad I did Lidy, otherwise we may not have got to see your gorgeous little dog! What a cutie, lovely photo, and such a heartwarming story that you have rescued him.

Methinks he's landed on his paws now!

I used the "magnetic lasso" tool to define the coloured area them took all of the saturation out of the background.
Ahhh, so that's how you missed the grassy bits through the back windows!

Gareth: Yes, I have a stack of Digital Photo mags, been buying them since January 2007. The CDs are excellent arent't they? Very easy to follow tutorials, start images so you can try the technique yourself as you watch and pause the video, and free stuff, borders, textures, etc. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn more about Photoshop or Elements.

I didn't mention the mag to Lidy as I'd assumed they're not available in The Netherlands, but then you can subscribe by post, so maybe you can have them sent to Europe each month.

Incidently, you can also colour pop by converting to B&W then painting the colour back in using the history brush, but it doesn't give the quick and easy redo of any B&W areas as this (link) method does.

Great. Thank you, Kay! I saved the link straightaway - I love video tutorials. Fortunately those long winter evenings are coming up again and I'll definitely try this on one of them (but more likely long before that). Can't wait to have a go.
You're welcome Lidy; there are lots of very useful videos on that website, could last you all winter!

I quite like it, but it does need straightening. I haven't yet figured out how to do this popping.
Here you go Lidy: link

Not much available for Paintshop Pro, but for those with Photoshop or Elements, this is an excellent source for VERY easy to follow video tutorials.

They also produce a monthly mag, Digital Photo, which comes with a free CD of tutorials, complete with start photos so you can follow along with the tutorial, and free stuff like borders, textures, etc.

Not listed on the left, but if you type 'paintshop video' in the search bar there are a few tutorials, but I'm sure even viewing the Photoshop ones will give you some ideas to try in Paintshop.

You may find this helpful. I'm sure it works as well for people as it does bus shelters!

Many thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to respond to my query.

Looks like it's a landslide victory for the Metz then!

Phew - such a relief to have finally made a decision. Can't believe how much time I've spent on this today!

Now, where did I put my credit card . . .

Hi, newbie here, finally taken the plunge after months of lurking!

I really am sorry to ask, I know this question has, in various ways, been asked before (many times!), and you are all probably getting fed up answering it, but . . .

I have spent the entire afternoon on the forum, and elsewhere on the net, and I REALLY cannot decide whether to buy the Metz 48 AF-1 Flashgun, or
the Pentax AF 360 FGZ, to go with my K10D.

There is little to choose between them when it comes to price; I have found the Pentax for £136.95 at www.purelygadgets.co.uk, and the Metz for £149.99 at www.morrisphoto.co.uk.

There are obviously issues with flimsy battery cover and lack of swivel on the Pentax. I like the idea of the swivelling Metz; is there any particular reason not to favour it above the Pentax?

Will be used wherever natural light is not available, just general hobby stuff, portraits (pets and friends), party pics (friend's wedding soon), etc. Very keen on exploring more Macro.

I know for a first post it's a bit naughty of me to post this in the wrong place, but I get the feeling the 'flash' forum is not so frequently visited, and I wanted to get as many views as possible, and get my order in pdq. By all means move to 'flash' if I'm breaking the rules.

Thanks for all the learning I've been surreptitiously absorbing from you all!!
