this ff not crop??So that’s rubbish

This sounds to me as you are trying to justify the k3 to me and this is NOT a dig at Pentax as i do use Pentax but i use the Nikon for work and it does well out class the k3 in a lot of ways.

iam sorry to say this but realty must provile you cant make things up it is what it is ?
----------------------------------------
As a keen bird photographer I should get the most advantage, apparently, by changing to the Nikon D7100. But I can live with the inferior AF for BIF. There aren't really any other advantages I can see in real world photography and for this type of activity some disadvantages with the Nikon for me. For starters I reckon I could sell my K30 and all my Pentax stuff and get about £2600. So if I switched to Nikon that would leave me about £1850 to rationalise my current lenses and accessories. SO for £1850 I need to get equivalent quality Nikon VR stabilised lenses to replace 18-250mm, A WR DA* 300,A WR 100mm Macro, A 50mm prime,Sigma 150-500, an AF 1.5x converter and a dedicated PPTL flash.
If someone tells me that's doable I'll think about it for more than 5 minutes. Anyone who has bought a second hand car should know by now it's not the trade in value but the cost to change that matters.
Dave
You'd struggle, my mate that's got a k30 and a few WR kit lenses also has a D300s and a raft of lenses for that. He's having a similar conundrum to ponder, He is dyed in the Wool Nikon but loves the K30 except the focus!, To give even more balance I told him to just get a D7100 and get over it! He could add an 18-140/18-200/18-250? or something as a walkabout with what he could get between his K30 and I think three lenses and his D300s and grip. Trouble is, is the D7100 is not quite a "Pro" body like the D300s, the buffer and the meter being the two major limiting factors...
If you can live with the interface and stump up the extra cash for something like Nikons 80-400 AFS VR I'd do it personally.
A lot of of the problems with Canons is the default settings, they are very contrasty, which makes em look a lot worse than they really are but dial em down and they are pretty good really...

Shoots at 8.3 fps as opposed to 6 or seven if you crop,
Strike one!
All metal chassis/body look it up instead of going off half cocked!

http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/k-3/feature/04.html
It's near the bottotm of the page if you can be bothered.
Strike 2!

Higher mag viewfinder .94x vs .95x, hence tiny bit better but a draw if you like but still a win
Striike! And out!

Three seperate mechanisms and it's the least bouncy mirror assembly I have come across all my time in digital and look at my history to see what I've owned, pretty much everything, it's superior, buy one and one of everything else and prove me wrong then?
Strike one again!

The meter in the D7100 (2016 rgb) and below is different to the ones above in the range, again look it up instead of knee jerking because you don't like being told!
Strike two... Again!

Any more, want to be out twice in one innings???

Come back when you're educated...

like what ?
Shoots Faster
Not half made of space plastic (No debate it's been done to death!)
HDR RAW
Three-motor mechanism which allows independent control of the mirror, shutter and diaphragm (It just doesn't seem to bounce!)
Tiny bit better viewfinder
86,000-pixel RGB light-metering sensor for extra-accurate detection of the subject’s shape and colour, way better than that crappy Nikon one that's tied to the focus point (Not the same one as in the D800 et al)
AA filter simulator
In-body shake reduction mechanism compatible with all interchangeable lenses
Mirror-bounce damper mechanism
And the biggie over the D7100: continuous shooting, supported by high-speed data transfer and large-capacity buffer memory
Tav
Auto level compensation
4K-compatible interval movie shooting
Cold resistance down to -10°C
Real mans weather sealing
FLU card tech, when it arrives!
200,000 shot shutter

That's just off the top of my head at the moment, bet there's more still and yes I spotted the
Oh yeah and it's a Pentax! That's a definite plus!

I think most of us on this forum make images John but talking specs and comparing this against that is part of the forum No?
Dpreview is the top gear of forums, you can't take a landscape or portrait picture unless it's FF 36Mp nor shoot action unless you use a D4.
APSC is only good enough for EBay sales Pics but I thought you knew that?
The slight deflation on my part from the DXO review is from the fact that I would have expected if the K3 had more DR than the D7100, it would have more noise and if it had less DR then it would have had less noise as it's a balancing act on how much of each to draw from the sensor. Or perhaps it would have a higher bit depth if they'd gone for out and out Colour clout but it doesn't seem to quite match the Toshiba sensor on any of theses values, and I know I'm splitting hairs but that's how the great unwashed will see it and it makes it a harder sell to them...
On the plus side it's not banding at all, well mine isn't anyway...

On the side of the glass being half full as opposed to half empty, I have not made much of the K3's obvious advantages over the D7100 amongst others...
Just thought I'd balance things a little...

If it's capable as this it'll do...

I sort of agree Smeggy and I have to say I was hoping to beat the D7100, and I feel a tad deflated, it's close but no cigar! As Dodger mentions above, it may struggle against the D7100 with it's Focusing which Will currently seem superior due to the availability of faster focusing lenses than Pentax currently have. Ricoh needed a win here, though most on this forum are more enlightened there is a whole "other" tribe who will buy just looking at reviews like this and even if only by a little the K3 loses out! It's basically back to selling Pentax on it's superior feature set, they unfortunately will ahve to drop the price I think because the D7100 has been out a while it's retailing some £300 less than the K3 at the moment and for some it'll be hard to see why they sohuld buy it. Still glad I did by the way as it's working for me, I'm just not seeing the difference in RAW files in my shooting but then I'm a landscaper these days. I go in the opposite direction to you when comparing the K3/K5II files, I blow up the K5 files to the same size as the K3, unfair I know but currently it massages my ego!
Ricoh needed to announce a couple of Fast focusing lenses at the same time as the body in my opinion, like the 120-360 Zoom and the replacement for the 17-70 DC and WR but they did not, they need to quickly or the camera will get a reputation for being a bit MEH which it's not...

Indeed but I wonder why there was no ISO 50?
The original Sony (IX96?) 24mp sensor used in the Alpha77 had it but not this one, for some reason.
I'm not very up on this new Sony sensor, there does not seem to be anything pubkished on it. Except anecdotal evidence from Dpreview that Ricoh had analyzed both this and the toshiba used in the D7100 and preferred the Sony.

Right, so screw drive lenses should benefit from the k3s faster internal screw system, but lenses with their own internal motors are going to be limited to about the same focusing speed as before?
Yip! They do seem to aquire and hold focus better, just not quicker, my 16-50 still does the little double take on static subjects but it's quicker about it so not as annoying in AFC the lenses glide smoothly like they do on all the K5 series...
