Other half took last Friday off, so we headed off early doors to Keswick, and took a walk in from Lodore ferry stage, up above the falls to Watendlath Beck and on to the Bowder Stone then back across the top of Lake Derwentwater via Falcon and Walla Crags and back into Keswick, 'twas a beautiful day...

Actually I'd like to hear about the K30/50 image quality, I am seriously considering putting together an even lighter kit in a shoulder bag to have sat in the hall to go with me everywhere, in an attempt to get into B+W and street stuff etc, Now the K5 series are 14bit but the double digit k30/50 only 12 bit, I've never realy been that convinced of the difference, is there any?
If it's really not that big a deal I may just get a K50 intead of one of the 5's or a limited edition K3...

This guy used to post a bit about Pentax and he's back, probably not to Smeggys taste but anyway he lieks em and uses em, he's just binned his 5DMKIII for a K3...

Ok I wasn't going to come back to this thread but I feel the need.
Firsty, I wanted to cry Troll the first time the guy responded to me but felt that this forum was not the place where that sort of thing would happen, strong debate yes but not trolling, so I let it ride. The abuse I was then given for responding with facts was met with more abuse and still more abuse in the form of personal mails, one of which I posted to try to make the guy see what he was doing but it still persisted. I'm not going to post up the rest here as I then may need to go and dig out my birth certificate to prove a few things, enough on that point I think.
Secondly at one point I also got a little strong but it was more to do with the personal Mails I was getting in between his abusive posts but I fed the Troll and broke one of hte cardinal rules of the internet and for that I am truly sorry!
Thirdly I'd like to thank the members who sent supportive personal messages to me during this, I actually thought I was losing my mind (Again) at one point and went back to check that all my facts were right twice as I thought that may have been the cause.
Fourthly, It's hard to be judgemental as I have no idea what was going on with him yesterday, could have been anything and I've been there in my recent past, it's sometimes really hard to keep a perspective on things and then a fly crawls up the wall at the wrong angle and BOOM!
I saw a lot of signs yesterday, not good...
And fifth, I 'd again like to thank this forum, well for being this forum, two years ago when I had my do, call it a proper midlife if you will but it's actually something I will have to battle for the rest of my life. I left pentax User to take time out to get myself better, I could feel myself getting angry at people, who really had not done much at all to irritate me and it was time to take a break, since my return I have grown within myself, if what happened yesterday had happened a year ago I would of simply left again never to come back. I would have not had the personal strength to withstand such a public/private onsluaght and partly my new found inner strength is in no small amount down to all of you.
And last but not least I'd like to thank Gartmore and John Riley, the Moderators here, until yesterday I had no idea Gartmore was a moderator but I'm very glad he is.
And to John You can't be here 24/7, you must feel like the teacher leaving the classroom for five minutes, coming back and the classroom is in tatters! My Mums 92 and never stops amazing me, survived a doodlebug on Woolworths in London during World War II, yes some tihngs are more important than even photography...

This thread is interesting on DP Review, might it account for some of the differences in the scores regarding the DXO Review of the K3 against rhe competition, or indeed not, I must admit I get a bit lost in this deeper stuff and had to start a diffraction thread earlier in the week to make sure my understanding was correct! Just interested in why the D7100 and Pentax K3 seem to see the same thing slightly differently and why...

I think given the current situation it's pretty fair, we don't know what conditions it was tested under though I suppose but you would expect them to try to have a look at the low light performance at least I guess.
Regards the rest of the Pentax AF conudrum, what I'll say is, we are not going to be able to quantify it against another marqus performance until both are tested with the same lens IE a third party one, (Not so easy either given the lack of support in the third party world at the moment!) so that the focus throw and speed of the motor are the same or Ricoh/Pentax decide to be benevolent enough to let us have lenses that can face the opposition head on (erm sort of pun sort of intended). If ricoh gave AP the K3 to try and let it out with a "kit" Lens, then as Mike P alluded in another thread, they deserve all they get and it should be teamed with the 18-135. Although that does not escape criticism either, see the Photography Blog review below.

I know that AP did a first look peice on one of the pre production samples but I do not know if AP were on the recievers list for the production products. If not they may well of waited until it was out and went and bought one to test themselves, in which case were looking at a kit lens, a DA40 and seven out of ten..

Pentax have made progress with the k3 but not for £1099.00 i do think they could have done more for the money.
The k52s looking that and the k3 well I would say its just upgrade yes that’s what it is a upgrade by adding 2 card slots and 24mp there really is not a lot between them both.
but I would say that some will have to justify there money to them self’s by saying it’s the best camera out there but sadly its not.
but keep up the good work Jules
I disagree it tops the D7100 in all the areas I mentioned and more that I frankly could not be bothered to think about!
When introduced the price of the D7100 was very close to that of the K3 that's just market forces on a year old camera, the same will happen to the K3.

D7100, regardless of whether it is better / faster than the K-3 or not.
Dave i use three cameras all different i do get fed up with all this rubbish about the iso /faster/ Pentax is the best all the k3 has done what it should have done a year ago it is a good improvement but not from the k52s ? the k5 in your words plays better with the iso then the k3 goodness sake but if you can justify the money that you have spent for that little upgrade like the double cards and 24.mp and as you say the 8 fps at crop well its kind of the same as the d71000 you can shoot at 7.3fps with the d7100 not 6 fps at crop but who cares? By .001? then fine but I do think that the truth should be said or people could spend money they cant afford and be disappointed with all the twist and shout.

In Pentax terms the K3 is at the top of the triangle. It falls short is some areas of other brands. The big picture? Ricoh ARE moving in the right direction.

For photographers like me who use other systems, it's not a negative.

I use and stay with Pentax because of the qualities and satisfaction it offers.

If I'm still alive and have the funds to buy the model that matches the opposition in all areas, I'll buy it.

Best regards
now that makes good since
You tempted me out with a list of upgrades over the D7100 and having used both I prefer the Finder in the K3, on paper it's .01 better in mag, a win is a win, tell that to the new Zealand rugby team and they'll back me up on that one, not Ireland I'll warrant though?
Actually I remember saying in another thread on here that I thought the Canon 5DMKIII was the best out there (Money no object)not the K3 but hey ho, I have nothing to justify save for my next purchase which will likely be another K3 as it works for me.
A nice yummy silver one, as that's the real upgrade...Shhiinnyy...
You, I suggest you go away and upgrade the tone of your posts, at least to me. I'll make that my last word in this thread as I find you irritating in the extreme.
