I have used my K-3 on beaches with no problems at all so I imagine a KP would also be fine. If there's sand blowing about then I'd stick to WR lenses but otherwise as long as you don't throw sand or water over it then it should be fine.

I keep a separate waterproof camera for situations where there is a high chance of getting the gear wet or covered in sand so I'd use that when needed even if image quality is significantly lower. This used to be a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT30 but I've sold that and moved to a Fujifilm XP120 which should be better. Pentax and Olympus still make rugged/waterproof cameras that can be bought new.

While I'm sure the GR IV monochrome is a nice camera, like it's colour sibling and it's DSLR cousin it's massively overpriced.

Glad to see that someone (hopefully) got a good deal.

Saw this Pentax-fit lens on the CC website. The only photo is of the box but if anyone's in the area they might want to check it out, especially if they have a K-1 or shoot film as you won't find many ultra-wides at this price.

Three left at present.

I have the Tamron EF version and it is excellent.

No body ever gets me photography-related gifts, which is probably just as well as I prefer to choose them myself. Doubtless any money received will go towards photography stuff but there's nothing in particular lined up.

Canon make their own sensors, it's why their APS-C cameras are actually sub-APS-C with a 1.6x crop instead of 1.5x like everyone else. It's also why all of their cameras up until about the 5D mark IV have sensors with substantially less dynamic range than others - they were notably behind Sony (and maybe others) in terms of the technology used to make them. I used to deride them for that, and to some degree it's still a fair comment, but I have found with the 6D that the DR performance is sufficient for most things and to some degree it's made up for by the plethora of nice glass, nice jpeg engine and some other things.

I am intrigued by the choice of a 5D mark II though - that's a pretty old camera and I'm sure there are newer models which would perform better for astro, both from Canon and others. I think even the 6D is likely better for astro than the 5D II, and they cost around the same on the used market.

Very nice. I also have an interest in photographing graves, with my favourites being from Japan and France, I think they do graveyards better there, though UK ones are not bad.

It's always a shame to move away from Pentax and anyone would feel the same after working so long with a brand. I have kept my K-3 (and numerous film cameras) and a few AF lenses for when I want to indulge my Pentaxian side, and that's not to mention my hoard of old manual lenses, most of which are Pentax.

About a year ago I added a Canon 6D to my clutch of cameras and have added a few lenses since and I never thought I'd like Canon stuff but it feels great to use though of course nowhere near as well built as the K-3.

We all need to pursue what gives us the most enjoyment and if that's not Pentax then so be it. I value the Pentax journey that brought to where I am as a photographer and I think we should all do that.
