There is such a poor p/ex value for cameras I'd keep the DL and D. Perhaps you could use them in high risk situations, like bad weather, caving, whatever else puts a camera at risk?

Like all companies, Jessops do good things as well as making mistakes....

I know quite a few people who work for Jessops, and they are dedicated photographers working in an area that interests them.

I have to say I think you a being a bit harsh on Jessops, who do a pretty good job with a very wide range of products and services. I know it will vary from store to store, but the people I know who work for Jessops are keen enthusiasts just like us who have an excellent level of knowledge. I admit I have also come across others who are not so good, but in a large organisation I think that's probably inevitable.

That doesn't help the repair problem, but Matt is quite right - perservere and get to talk to someone who can resolve the issues for you. Pentax cameras are generally reliable, but, as with all things, failures do happen and repairs can be quite slow which is very frustrating.

It saves confusion if you only post once in one section - it will be read.

As far as I know, the optical configuration is the same. The A lens will be more convenient on the digital bodies, but the quality will be the same.

One of the things that lens designers allow to drift a little these days is distortion. Most lenses are sharp and contrasty.

The 16-45 is pretty good distortion-wise, and if architectural subjects are what you have in mind you should be OK.

The ideal Pentax lens for replacing the kit lens is the SMC Pentax-DA 16-45mm f4. This is a superb lens that will not disappoint.

You could double-check that the battery contacts are clean and making proper contact. Is the charger lighting up properly when charging?

Otherwise, it's back for a repair, and seeing it's so close to the warranty period i would be inclined to see if Pentax would stretch a point for you and do a warranty repair. After all, there's nothing to lose by asking.

An MX is smaller, has a self timer, better metering and a brighter viewfinder. If you can find a good one, that would be my first choice for a fully manual camera.
