I'm offering for sale my Pentax DA 17-70mm f4 AL SDM zoom lens. This is a really nice general purpose zoom lens that produces sharp well-rendered images whist maintaining a constant f4 aperture throughout the zoom range. It is in superb condition with totally clear optics and a good snappy iris, no marks or damage whatsoever and smooth-turning focus and zoom rings. There have been no SDM autofocus issues. Boxed and complete with front/rear caps and lens hood. I am also including in the sale an as-new 67mm dia Hoya HD Protector filter to suit this lens.

The lens still has a little of the Pentax guarantee period left. Only used for 6 months before being replaced in my bag by the 20-40 Ltd ( There's no logic to that. Both are great lenses and the 17-70 has a more useful zoom range - I just happen to like LTDs )

I should mention that there is a little play in the lens barrel and there always has been since new. At the time of purchase I had rejected two examples of the Pentax 17-70 due to excessive barrel 'wobble'. This third lens was noticeably better and was described by SRS as being 'normal' for the type. The slight play has no effect at all on performance.

The lens is favourably priced to sell at £225 with the filter and to include insured RMSD.

I'm offering for sale my Pentax DA 70mm f2.4 Ltd which is in excellent condition with totally clear optics and a good snappy iris, no marks or damage whatsoever and a smooth turning focus ring. No autofocus issues. Compact and lightweight and produces very sharp images. Boxed (the box is a little worn round the edges) and complete with front and rear caps, lens hood and Pentax leatherette pouch.

Reason for sale is that my go-to lenses for 95% of my photography are the 20-40 Ltd and the 50-135 DA*. I find I'm just not using the 70mm Ltd, excellent though it is.

Realistically priced to sell at £245 to include insured RMSD.

Hoya Pro1 Digital UV
Hoya Pro1 Digital circular polariser
Hoya HMC x2 Neutral Density

All are 52mm dia filter thread and so will suit a number of lenses including the Pentax 50mm f1.8 prime, Pentax 18-55 f3.5-5.6 'kit' lens and the Pentax 50-200 f4-5.6. Also included is a 49mm - 52mm dia step-up converter which allows these filters to be used with all the very many Pentax lenses that have a 49mm filter thread.

The filters are all in excellent condition, boxed, clear and unmarked. Selling only because I no longer have a need for this filter diameter.

No marks or damage whatsoever. Nice smooth focus ring. Compact and lightweight and produces decent sharp images. Boxed and with front and rear caps. I'm including a Kenco Pro1D protector filter with the lens.

Of the various Pentax DSLRs I have owned I'd suggest the K-5IIs for your upgrade: Weather sealed and highly durable body, excellent IQ and better low-light performance than the K-3 in my experience (I have owned both). There are some favourably priced near-mint used examples around where owners have moved to the K-3. And bear in mind that DSLRs bought originally from a UK Pentax Pro dealer carry a two-year guarantee as long as the receipt has been retained.

That's a lot of good advice above, Pete. I'd just add that what you take will depend on the type of travelling: Mainly hotels and cities means less restriction on equipment than back-packing in the rough. I've done a lot of back-packing and trekking in far-flung places in all conditions and, if that is the type of travel you are planning, I'd say keep it simple.

I'd never consider anything as big and heavy as the 60-250 for trekking, excellent though it is. Although the 18-135 is not the best performer optically it is still very acceptable and covers probably 80% of the shots you are likely to take. It is also WR, which you may be glad of at times, to match the WR of your DSLR. A 1.4x converter will give more range as long as you can live with the resulting maximum aperture at the long end. I'm not sure I could.

If it was me I'd just take the 18-135 and the 100mm macro (great also for portraits with reduced DOF). You could probably also squeeze in a wider prime, as you have suggested.

A couple of other suggestions: Firstly, a Manfrotto BeFree tripod is extremely light and compact but great quality. I always take one with me. A forum member has one for sale right now. Secondly, a good WATERPROOF backpack like the Lowepro DryZone - SRS have them at a bargain price today.

Glad to hear that Andrew. Presumably there was no problem in going straight from LR3.6 to LR5 once you downloaded the trial version and registered it? Did you come to the conclusion that the disk was faulty?

Don't forget the 5.3 update if you have not already done it. It sorts out a few issues.
