It would be a one-piece construction otherwise.
Not necessarily, it could just be easier to mould in separate pieces, or made like that to allow access to the 'penta'viewfinder, Dan.

As for separate flash triggers, George, I seldom use flash anyway!

So it wouldn't bother me to use a separate unit, I'm probably not alone with this either.

How about a DSLR without the hopeless built in flash?
Looking at the original post it appears to be a flash-less size.

After all we used to use cameras with separate flashes so why not now. As long as a hot shoe is fitted and software is available a flash on the hot shoe could still be used as a trigger.

Or maybe wireless flash set ups without the on camera slave!

This is on ebay at the moment, it's the favourite one above.

I have slingshot 100 and a Fastpack 200 , both are easy to use.

The '100 for odd days out, the '200 for short breaks.

The Fastpack 200 has a reasonable size compartment at the top allowing waterproofs or a change of clothing plus other odds to be carried, the camera section holds my K200d with grip, numerous lenses and flashes and still has space. It's also small enough to be carried onto an aircraft!

Check out Amazon for good deals on all your choices, I'd go for a Fastpack 200 or, if you can afford it, Fastpack 250 for a laptop as well.

Just a general comment Mike, please don't take offence.

Why don't you get hold of a Pentax ME or MES Mike and run a film or two through it?

You think more and take more time over composition etc. making the end product much more personal.

I run films through some of my manual Pentax bodies just for the pleasure of doing it the hard way.

Mind, I take the K200d on holiday with me. SD cards are cheaper than film!

I had a couple of non AF lenses and they were a darned nuisance as I had to think about the focus all the time
That's the point in Manual focus you have to think!

Calm down Mike, remember if we all were the same where photography's concerned we WOULD be using idiot proof point and shoot units.

^^ what everyone else said is correct ^^. I would add that Golfdiesel is also correct that with the 2x convertor on the 55-300 autofocus hardly ever works. I find that the 1.5x Kenco however does work well with my 55-300, with some image degradation tho....
So a 1.5x is better than a 2x if you want to keep auto focus?

I'm interested in this topic as I've considered a TC in the past, tried manual ones, but not been convinced as to their worth.
