Just fired off over 300 shots of waves, surfers, fishing boats, seagulls, cormorants and pelicans in flight, and one squirrel (not in flight), mainly just to see what the camera would do. Never missed a moment. Caught full range of wing motion and positions in flying birds. Long and short bursts, no waiting for write or save. (I use viewfinder, not "live view" and I also use a Class 10 card; maybe that helps.) Even shot a brief test video. And the battery is still holding up ( exactly what they say in specification: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Pentax/k-x.php ). This is a very good camera for action shooting.

I'm very happy with this camera. Images are crisp, colors are nice without any adjustment, zoom is great. There are a lot of upgrades over the k-x. I got lucky and got the k-r kit for only $100 more than the k-x kit. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought it, and frankly, I would have missed out. I'm keeping the Fuji S100 also; it has cable remote and takes great pictures at all ranges. But it doesn't have the same burst capability.

I recently got the Pentax K-x in Black. I can't say enough about this wonderful camera. I've been shooting with SLRs for 25 years now, and this is the finest one I have ever used. It is such a pleasure to hold and use. You feel like you are holding something very special, as the build quality is top notch. The HD video feature is awesome, too. I've been tinkering around with HD video on my PC for a couple of years now, so I know all about the formats of HD. You are going to need a computer with a bit of muscle under the hood to be able to play your HD videos. I recommend a dual core processor. That should be enough to handle, playing your HD captures( litle help on K-x video review: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Video/PentaxK-x.php ). It shoots video in the .avi format. And if you like to upload to YouTube, it works just fine. YouTube actually recognizes the video as being HD, and thus allows it to be played in their HD player. The other thing I love about this camera, is the RAW format. It lets you choose between the Pentax RAW (PEF), or the highly used .DNG (Digital Negative) format, which is so very versatile. I like shooting in .dng, since it's non proprietary, and Adobe Photoshop has no problem with it. As for the picture quality, and camera settings, they are what you would expect to be with any DSLR. I've always been a Canon guy, but couldn't resist this little gem. I'm so glad I opted for the Pentax, and have no regrets.

all i can say is WOW, great value for money it is just brilliant for new wanabe photographers, it is a good price it has a fantastic 26xx zoom (flea from 600 feet: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Camera_Test/PentaxOptioX90/?background=patak ) and is not to bulky, I like the fact that it is a point and shoot camera but you can also play with the settings and do manual focus etc. I am not planing on being a profetional photographer but this is all you will ever need foor family photos and is also good at long shot photos of the family pet and the birds they are chasing

This is the fastest and most accurately focusing camera Pentax has ever built, easily in line with Canon and Nikon's offerings in the price range. One small disappointment is that the fast focus and 7 fps capture rate makes the camera suitable for sports and wildlife photography, but the camera has a somewhat limited buffer. The 40 frames of JPEG is reasonable (the example is in video review: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Video/PentaxK-5.php ) but the 15 image RAW buffer is a bit cramped. But then Pentax doesn't make the long lenses for that kind of photography anyway. Though Sigma does make some with Pentax mounts. With the few ballgame or bird photos I take, I haven't found the buffer limit to be a problem.

Pros:

Low light: This is a camera that takes great low light pictures, you can push the ISO up pretty high and still get great pictures. This was the biggest reason for me to upgrade. I had a hard time taking pictures of my kids in various performances with terrible lighting conditions. Obviously one needs a good lens. But with my old camera I had to throw too many away. This camera combined with the DA 50-135mm lens is one terrific package (see it on the video review: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Video/PentaxK-5.php ) for such situations.

Weight/Size: this is the most compact camera at such a level that you will find.

Weather resistant: This is a weather resistant camera! Combine this with a weather resistant lens and you are all set.

Electronic Level: I thought this was a gimmick but after using it for a few days, I find it indispensable to take level photos.

User Selectable Focus points: these are standard in expensive cameras, nothing special if you have used such cameras before but for somone upgrading I quickly found out how convenient this was.

Shake reduction: Pentax unlike Nikon/Canon has shake reduction built into the camera, so any lens you put on it has shake reduction function.

Lenses: Pentax has small pancake lenses called limited lenses. Try these if you are new to Pentax. They are superb and great to walk around with without looking like a dork.

Cons: Expensive...

The feel of the W90 is great, feels good in the hands and the operation buttons are placed well. There are plenty of settings for all shooting modes. I feel for a point and shoot camera the picture quality is way above average. I think most people who by point shoots expect SLR quality photos, which is not the case.

This is a great camera to take photos in all conditions and does it very well. There is noise at higher ISOs ( you can see it on the video: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Video/PentaxOptioW90.php ), but that is to be expected with just about any camera. Cool design that is fun to use!!! I love the fast start up and plenty of shooting options. The microscope option really works, you can get to 1cm away and has clear focus. I did take it in the pool with me a few days ago and all dry inside, no leaks.

I chose the K-x over the K7 because of its low light performance(being half the price helps as well). I have read reveiws that state the K7 performs slightly worse than the k20 at high ISO levels. Being an owner of a k20, I can state that the K-x far out performs the k20 at ISO 1600 ( check it on the video review: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Video/PentaxK-x.php ) . This camera is perfect for shooting pictures of people and settings where a flash would be considered intrusive. Its relatively fast focus speeds and hd video make this camera the perfect tool for capturing those special moments with my friends and family. I think you can get more candid shots when you don't have a flash announcing that a camera is present. I still prefer my k20 for more formal photograpy where a "hands on" approach is desired, but for everyday use, and at this price, I think the k-x is hard to beat.

Hi there i want everyone to know, i finally have found a great point and shoot camera, i have owned many cameras including the panasonic f35 which has great ratings, how ever the pentax has gone a few steps forward. Its great having an electic view finder as well as a nice size screen, the 26 xx zoom is fantastic ( Check it out at X90 simulator: http://pentax-x90.blogspot.com/ ). The camera is made well, in gun metal blue. it really come close to using my slr, with out carrying all the lenses, etc, Thank You Pentax.

My theory about why the eight raw buffer limit exists (also with an accordingly low JPEG buffer limit) at maximum continuous rate is Pentax's typical conservative specification policy and the existence of these extremely high maximum ISO's in extended ISO mode. To me, it makes sense that the actual raw buffer limit is just proportionally less than that of the K-7 considering the larger pixel dimensions and the faster continuous shooting speed, such that 15 raw captures would seem to be about right for exactly the same shooting environment and ISO sensitivity settings. However, there very well might be only eight raw captures possible for worst case raw files sizes where the maximum raw file size at ISO 51,200 could be as large as 35 MBytes or so.

Thus, there is no discrepancy between the performance of the K-7 and this new K-5 ( as "Which" website says in its video review: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Video/PentaxK-5.php ), and only confusion about the conditions under which that limit applies.
