The photos you display are certainly very impressive, but I don’t know what I should do with my first generation K-3 to obtain the result. If anything special…

[quote:3496ace15f="SSF1957"][quote:3496ace15f="Grodgeman"]After all these years of simply going to the B/W settings of my many Pentax cameras (including a K-3) when I wanted B/W or of using the computer, your remarks make me wonder what I have been missing or getting wrong. I cannot imagine what. I’m certainly happier now than I was in front of the tons of chemicals and paper I used to waste with the (retired) Leica and (sold) Nikon. I need enlightenment. Cheers.
I did think the idea of a mono only camera was a little strange at first. However the greater detail and tonal range available from a converted (or in the case of the K3iii dedicated) sensor certainly ticks a few boxes. More importantly for me when using the camera I think differently about the images I am capturing, concentrating more on form and texture and not getting distracted by colour - admittedly that is more my issue than a cameras!
The two images below were both taken with the K3iii Monochrome. Comment Image

........ but do I need another lens? Please help me convince myself.
Of course you do. now get it ordered.
Of course you do not, and I speak as a champion of buying stuff I have not used.
Buy (while you can) an old 16-45 which nicely covers the useful range.
Having said that, I 95% of the time use the 18-270 (on a K-r, K-50, K-70, K-3).
The rest is dust-loving clutter (35, 50 macro, 16-85, 17-70, 18-135, 55-300 [two versions], countless 18-55s - and others forgotten).
Remember the (contextually somewhat irrelevant) words of the proverbial Chinese sage: He who has one watch, knows the time. He who has two, is never sure. And he who has lots…)
Cheers.
PS: the 16-45 is really good (is you like landscapes).
PPS: Some of the lens ranges given above are probably wrong — which shows how often I don't use them).

Greetings to you all as a Canuck currently living in Pennsylvania USA.
I have been of fan of Pentax cameras since the ME Super! Through the years I have picked up others such as Ist DS as well as the K10D, the Q and the K-01.
Looking now for a new Pentax any ideas? K3 or K3II? Wait for the K1?
Funds are an issue for me so I need to take that into account.
Any assistance would be most welcome.

The K-50 has all one needs. Including the possibility of using R6/AA batteries. Also have a K-3 which gives me little more except weight and is gathering dust nicely.
