Hi John, not sure why this has been posted here, I started it as seperate post for this query?? Thank you for your comment, yes you are correct the camera is an *istD and not an 'S'. It is not the card, I have tried several with the same result. I suspect it may be the CCD or the main board at fault. Who would you recommend as the best source of repair for both price and service? Thanks, Steve

Hi all, I have been given a Pentax *ist DS SLR that uses compact flash. This is not my normal models I use, I have two K20s and K10 as backup. I have a problem with the *ist DS camera, all functions, modes, autofocus, flash, etc work. But when a picture is taken no image is saved to the card. I have used several cards all with the same result. I have used the cards in other cameras with no problems recording images. The cards are 512mb. Pictures taken on other cameras can be viewed on the Pentax *ist DS. but any taken using the Pentax *ist DS are no saved. Has anyone experienced similar with one of these models, what was the problem and was it fixed. It would be a shame to discard the camera as it looks for all intents and purposes as brand new. Any ideas or advice. Thanks, Steve

Thanks to everyone for your help. The K100's seem to be very prone to battery issues. At least the K10D and K20D with the with the rechargeable Li-on batteries have never caused any issue.

I have been a prolific Pentax user of film SLRs since the seventies and have owned and used many bodies. I completely switched to Digital several years ago and now have several DSLR bodies, K100D, K100D Super, K10D and K20D. Like most I have battery life issues with both the K100D and Super models. But now the K100D Super model has stopped working, with new batteries (I have tried several makes and capacities batteries using different chargers) the camera when switched on will only show a depleted battery symbol and no camera functions operate at all - the camera body is effectively dead. Has anyone experienced this? Are there any know fixes or is this a fatal failure? I had a fatal failure on the K100 that required a warranty replacement of the main board. Currently I have had no issues with either the K10 and K20 bodies. But I am lossing faith in Pentax.
