...doesn't exist in a Pentax Mount. How infuriating! This lens was recently rated highly by Digital Camera magazine as 'Best for Pentax', so having checked prices I excitedly ordered one from Mathers of Bolton at the weekend. The phone call I received from them on Monday was short, to the point and equally disapointing..."We tried to order one from Sigma Mr M only to be told that they don't make this lens in a Pentax fit, and they gave no indication when this would change". The same tale then came back from another shop also advertising it on their website, who again didn't realise the true situation.
Despite being a Pentax user for over 30 years, I'm afraid it's at times like this I could throw the towel in and move elsewhere!

Can i add two common but helpful tips for using PK Tether.
1. Use the menu to switch off illumination of the the top lcd screen as it will flicker during use and cannot be good for camera.
2. Choose to save or delete photo's quite often as i find even with 6gb RAM after 8 photo's in the cache memory, the software crashes and freezes the camera.
Thanks for the extra tips bluenose82. I've noticed the flickering and came to the same conclusion. Has anyone else any experiences, good or bad, with PK_Tether?
Cheers
Geoff

Thanks very much for your help Gareth and others. I've taken the plunge, downloaded PK_Tether and it's exactly what I wanted. There's always something new to learn!

No, as the images are now being saved on the computer rather than the memory card then preview via camera screen will now not work as there is nothin to display on the memory card
Thanks Gareth but I meant it disables use of the camera not just the viewing. I want to be able to shoot with the camera and then see the images on the laptop screen rather than the camera screen.

Many thanks Gareth. Attaching the lead as you say just seems to give me the option to view/transfer etc but disables the camera. Is it not possible to still use the camera and see the images as soon as they're taken, or is this only by using PK_Tether? I have read up quickly on this but was a little put off by the 'at your own risk' caveat!

This is a new consideration for me, so please pardon my ignorance on the subject, but has anyone used their K5 tethered to a computer/laptop? I'm not bothered about the functionality of being able to control the camera from the computer but would just like to view the images as soon as they've been taken. Is there a specific lead or connector available for this?
Thanks in anticipation

Thanks Owen. Well I've now put my order in at £659 (+£15 special delivery postage) which I think is a terrific price compared to other stores. Roll on the weekend.

Thanks for your comment Steven.

My local dealer would not move on the price at all and just tried to frighten me with the 'grey import' threat. Whilst I do like to support local stores I have my pricing limits and, after all, the other independent store is local to someone!

I'm looking to buy a new K5 body and am amazed at the difference in price around various sites and stores - ranging from £659 to over £800. My local dealer says the low price quoted here must be a grey import but the store in question assure me it isn't and that "as a small independent they just want to be competitive in the market". What does anyone else think?

Having a website seems to have brought a sudden and unexpected interest/confidence in my apparent ability to take a reasonable photo.

If I can take a decent landscape then I must obviously be skilled enough to take on this simple but slightly more important marital challenge. Maybe so, but what do we amateurs charge to do a wedding? We obviously want to be cheaper than a pro but, presumably, not undervalue ourselves.

I read with interest the recent post about not getting High Street labs involved in the printing process. Whilst I can see the profit potential of retaining the original files, my thoughts are that I would just provide a DVD and leave the printing to the happy couple... now with a couple of caveats thanks to the advice here.

That just leaves a charge for the day then!

Regards

Geoff
