Pentax K5 Price differences

I'm looking to buy a new K5 body and am amazed at the difference in price around various sites and stores - ranging from £659 to over £800. My local dealer says the low price quoted here must be a grey import but the store in question assure me it isn't and that "as a small independent they just want to be competitive in the market". What does anyone else think?

Geoff - I think Pentax have upped the RRP, and this indie dealer is simply selling stock he purchased at the previous wholesale price. If it's being sold in the UK via a retailer, it shouldn't matter whether it's a grey import or not since, if the product proves to be defective, your recourse is with the seller. It is then down to them to argue it out with Pentax.

If you're gonna buy at £659, go for it - with absolute confidence.

Thanks for your comment Steven.

My local dealer would not move on the price at all and just tried to frighten me with the 'grey import' threat. Whilst I do like to support local stores I have my pricing limits and, after all, the other independent store is local to someone!

Hi Geoff
I ordered a K5 from (I assume) the same place. At that price there's no way I could justify being loyal to my local dealers. Saying that the guy in Jacobs looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if they had a K5 in stock! My wife was looking to try out a Pentax-Q ... they lost
2 sales there!

Thanks Owen. Well I've now put my order in at £659 (+£15 special delivery postage) which I think is a terrific price compared to other stores. Roll on the weekend.
Cheers
