Hank,
I am using the Ohnar one-piece slide copier. I think John R is right that whatever process you use is going to take a long time. Not only is it fiddly to set up, but the pictures do not come out well, unless you do a lot of tweaking.
However, I shall continue to experiment.

Bad news for using a slide copier. As I should have realised, the zoom allows you to zoom IN and crop the slide; it doesn't allow you to zoom OUT and shoot a wider area, which is what you need to do with an Ist D.
If you can get a medium format slide copier, you may be in business. Otherwise, a bellows seems like the way to go.

I'll tell you in a few days. A *ist D is currently winging its way towards me, and I've got a lot of slides to copy. I'll probably spend an hour or two every evening over the next year on it!

You will need a zoom slide copier because any non-full frame digital slr will crop the slide considerably.

Personally, I think Pentax is right to change to a simpler and more efficient system for setting the lens aperture. It's tough on M series camera owners, and earlier, but their cameras are twenty plus years old and they can't expect to hold up progress indefinitely.

What is surprising is that Pentax dropped the superb hyper-program feature on the MZ-S, which (in that respect) is a less capable camera than the Z1 and Z1-P, because it is therefore incapable of using these new lenses fully.

I didn't mean to disparage the MZ-S generally. In most ways its excellent, but this particular non-feature, and the slower shutter, drive, and flash sync speeds are a disappointment, especially as it seems to have been built to a higher standard of robustness than the top Z cameras.

I know the camera has some rather nice flash features, but they only work with the expensive AF360FGZ, which is unfortunate for those who own other digital flash guns.

The MZ-S is seriously deficient in some ways, compared to the Z cameras.

I certainly agree with what I understand of what Matt said! Before trying anything else, experiment with your present printer, using the right ink and good paper. Ink-jets have been capable of very good results for several years now.

You get a free upgrade to your telephoto from 200 to 300, which is nice, but the downside is the free DOWNgrade of your wideangle from 28 to 42!
As with any SLR, what you see is what you get (more or less - they all trim a bit).

One point I forgot to mention, just in case you are not aware of it.

Most digital SLRs use a sensor the size of an APS film frame, not a 35mm frame.

This means that the camera appears to crop the picture on all sides - you just get the centre portion. The effect is similar to using a lens with a focal length one and a half times longer.

So your 28-80 will turn into a 42-120, and your 70-210 becomes a 125-315.

It's the same with all camera makes, unless you want to spend hugely more for a "full frame" digital SLR.

This is why the *ist D was accompanied at its launch by an 18-35mm zoom, equivalent to 27-50mm in 35mm terms.
