I do love living here, why did you leave?! Well I've got some more sets on my blog that I'll post up, the feedback is invaluable. Thanks again.

I agree completely! The West Pier is such a beautiful thing, but as you say, it's been photographed so much it's hard to do anything original with it.

It's very handy to have another eye on your own pictures. I shall certainly give that a go. Thanks!

Yep! The last one was indeed Tungsten, a bit extreme I think. How could I adjust the levels do you think? More or less contrast? Maybe the foreground needs brightening?

I think from the lack or responses that these images are a bit predictable and not very good?

Thanks for the feedback!

Took these with my kit lens in April maybe, just messing around with white balances. Only had a proper camera since Christmas but I like only shooting on Manual with no PP except straightening slightly crooked horizons (these are hand-held). I was going for dark and moody.... See what you think!

Thanks johnriley, that's handy to know. I'll keep at it with the kit lense before spending money on a macro.. I suppose it's a bit silly buying a bit of kit without knowing how it will benefit you.

I hang my head in shame!

So what's the advantage of a macro lense? I was just told scale models = macro lense. The kit lense does focus on them but I though I might get better photos with a macro lense?

Nice link!

Well the models are about 120mm - 150mm tall, so x100 - I'm sure you can work it out!

On a side note - I just bought a Pentax-M f1.7 50mm off ebay for £30.. I don't mind playing around with manual focus! Though I noticed this was the model before the A, so hope it's as good..

Cheers

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the models I build are mainly 1/100 scale models of giant robots... I'll upload some photos once I figure out how to take a good photo.

Thanks for the follow up info gartmore & Pentaxophile!

Wow, that's more information than I could have ever hoped for! Thankyou very much indeed.

My itchy mouse finger was hovering above the 'buy it now' button on that 28-80 not-so-macro lense, so thanks for warning me off that one. And thanks Blythman for that comprehensive list of lenses but I fear those are a little out of my price range at the moment

I think I wanted the 50mm 1.7 jus to experiment with portraits and things, so I'll try and get hold of one of those.

Maybe I'll just keep using my kit lense for scale models until I can afford the 35mm macro you've all pointed me towards.

Again, thanks you guys, a hell of a lot. I'll let you know what I end up getting and what I end up doing with it....
