No, I didn't do anything with the LCD cover apart from give it a wipe. It looked to me like it was fixed in place. I took the camera back to Jessops in its original box and they are sending it to Pentax. I asked for an exchange but they said they didn't have any. I don't know how they send things but the shop only took the camera and didn't want the original box to put it in. The lady in the shop took the rubber viewfinder surround off to give back to me and when I told her it came with it on she couldn't refit it so that has gone loose with the camera.

I bought a DL2 weeks ago but have been using my Super Program until I finished up all the film. Now I’ve got the DL2 out and found something down the right hand side of the LCD monitor that I didn’t notice when I bought it. It looks like very thin fibres from fine cloth, but if I try wiping it off I can’t because it’s underneath the monitor. I can only see it when the monitor is off. Switch it on and the fibres can’t be seen. Is it mould or something? It is the first time I have seen anything like this on any of my gear, and the DL2 was kept in a padded nylon shoulder bag with its standard lens attached, plus one other lens and silica gel sacks which I put with anything that’s not being used.

I’m very near going digital but would be grateful for some advice on the lenses. On my Super Program I mainly use the Pentax-A 28mm and 24mm lenses, although the 50mm and 20mm are essentials which I have to have in my bag as well.

In the *ist range everything is priced to include the 18-55 lens. I like the Jessops offer of the *ist DL2 with 18-55 for £600 plus the 50-200 for free, but I know that if I took that offer, which ends soon, the 50-200 would be useful but not essential. Also, the widest angle of the 18-55 is 28 in old money and I would need that and wider still!

I have noticed that the 16-45 is highly rated on here but it is never sold with a body, only as a separate item. I would be interested in the 12-24 if I can find it, but with the lenses available I’ve got to consider the 12-24 covering some of the range that the 16-45 can, and the 16-45 covering some of the 18-55 range. Having both the 18-55 and 16-45 just seems a bit too much to me.

Thanks, Ammonyte. I was misinformed by two reviews I had read.

I've just been reading the specifications for the ist DL2 and noticed its sensitivity is 400 to 3200. I am still all manual at the moment and I never use fast film because I like landscapes and architecture and I don't tend to go out unless the weather is nice. How is this camera likely to react when the weather is REALLY sunny, ie. southern Europe in the summer? Jessops are offering the camera at £600 with a free 50-200 lens but I'm not sure about this sensitivity.
