A very rare lens in superb condition. PK Mount. No mold, dust, scratches or oil on the blades. One of my very favourite lenses that I am reluctant to sell but as it's PK mount I have no choice since I no longer own a PK mount camera. Really sad to let this go as it does really wonderful things to specular highlights ! I'm including a metal hood for it that I bought separately. Non-original caps (front & bottom). The glass is fantastic, the barrel is 9/10. Priced to sell at 250 plus postage (posted via RM Express : usually 1-2 days) to UK mainland only (other locations please send me a PM). Note I am back in the UK from the 17th December and will post sold items from any of my sales on the 17th or 18th. Payment via PayPal Gift only. Any questions please PM me, thanks !

Current state of affairs - Warning lens P0rn!

So my first Carl Zeiss (T* 2/50 Makro-Planar) lens has arrived. Before I have even mounted it on a camera and taken a shot I know that i'm in trouble, serious trouble. These things are just beautifully built. Damping on the focusing ring feels luxurious. The hood clicks into place with a tactile and audible click. Not overly heavy but has that hewn from solid feel that smacks of quality. Little things but they all add up to an overwhelmingly favorable first impression and make me want more! :twisted:They are totally addictive aren't they ! The 35/2 is an absolutely awesome lens and I believe it's the cheapest in their range (might be wrong on that). The newer 28mm is held in very high esteem and I would also recommend the older Contax Zeiss 28/2.8 which was my landscape lens bar none on PK (in fact I may still have that - and it would be for sale if I do), incredibly sharp and with that Zeiss 'look'. *goes downstairs to check* Nope, that ones gone but if I end up with a Pentax FF I'd have no hesitation in buying another one.
Ok, who beat me to the Pentax 1.7X converter?

Ferret - which Canon lenses did you have that you liked and which ones did you dislike ? The Tamron 17-50/2.8 is an excellent lens for the money. Had it and loved it. 70/2.4 - excellent portrait and street lens. 150-500. Don't see where you are going with this. It's relatively slow so not really a portrait lens, nor for fast sports such as Boxing / Muay Thai etc. I think in your shoes I'd be looking at a 70-200/2.8 and find a TC that works on it. Much more useful unless you KNOW that you need the 500mm.

Sorry I meant cms not mms. Too late to edit the post now ! So as I said put your fingers together and see what 1cm is in actuality, it's really nothing. It's 90g on Snapsort but whether 90g or 110g ... again it's piddling and not even worth debating. For all intensive purposes there is nothing dimension & weight-wise between an APS-C K5ii and a full frame D600.Well there is a significant difference in size between the K-5 and D600 and in spite you saying "Photos can lie" ( which of course can sometimes be true ) the comparison photos here are not lying. The ratio of the images is the same as the ratio of the dimensions quoted. But there's really no need to make disprovable claims about the sizes of cameras ...
So what do you mean by that ? I have given the dimensions twice in this thread (the first time in cms the second time mistakenly in mms) and you, who does not own a D600, are trying to tell me (who has owned both, even at the same time) that because 'you have seen it on the internet' you must be right ? There is only one answer to that, until you have been and held them side you side you are not qualified to lecture me on the reality.

[quote:3496ace15f="Pentaxophile"]Yeah it looks quite a bit bigger to me too, I was taking Kevin's word for it as someone who had handled both cameras. True about Canikon crop sensor cameras... try comparing the 7D for instance -http://camerasize.com/compare/#154,378Appreciate you taking my word .. but for the non-believers the dimensions speak for themselves (1mm x 1.5mm x 1mm larger than the K5II and 90g heavier). Photos can lie :DThe D600 is 10mm wider, 16mm taller and 9mm fatter than the K-5, and 110g heavier according to http://camerasize.com
Sorry I meant cms not mms. For all intensive purposes there is nothing dimension & weight-wise between an APS-C K5ii and a full frame D600. So IMHO Pentax could easily make a FF camera a fraction smaller than the D600 ... or in other words identical to a K5ii.

Since a lot of Pentax users like to add a grip that makes the package even larger/heavier (with batteries) than the D800, I doubt that a K6 FF, being slightly larger than the K5, would bother many people at all.

Not having a pop-up flash on a DSLR is traditionally one indicator that the body is a 'pro' model. But the makers did not think that the high iso performance would render flash unnessary, they figured that the pro user base would have their own flash guns, which are clearly much more versatile. But for these people, and still in many situations for all types of users, flash is a great 'get out of jail' card. Even our humble pop up can be very effective. What is interesting in other brands is to see cameras with FF / 35mm sized sensors and other pro specs continue to be made with pop up flashes. Our own K7 / K5 ranges have many 'pro-spec' features, in particular the range of on body levers and switches to directly control many essential camera functions that other brands place onto electronic menus. Yet they still have a pop-up flash. It seems the traditional distinctions between consumer / enthusiast cameras and the pro models is becoming less and less distinct. It will be a very important judgment for Pentax in deciding if they could dispense with the pop up in a new FF / 35mm body. The humble pop-up can indeed be very effective. I have one on the D800 and use it now and again as fill - it is very effective (even when birding if I don't have the BEtter Beamer to hand, it is surprisingly powerful). It is a good thing that Pentax keep it on all their cameras and long may it continue.

Funnily enough I found myself using the inbuilt flash recently (on my K10D) - I was photographing from beneath some metal steps onto a sunlit garden, and wanted some detail in the underside of the steps to come through. In general though, I agree the inbuilt flash is expendable. If I want flash, generally I want it off camera. My solution would be an inbuilt radio controller and some matching off camera flashes with built in receivers. I'm not sure how vitally important SR is for a FF camera either, to be honest... a lot of third party lenses have inbuilt OS anyway these days, but the higher ISO offsets the need for SR anyway. And don't forget that under maybe 50mm IS/SR/OS/VR is of very limited use anyway. I don't remember a single shot taken with my 21mm or 35mm that has been spoilt by motion blur (mine) :D However the higher ISO capability is just another aid to the SR and of course now doubles your chances of a blur/noise free image ! At least I hope Pentax continue to offer SR in camera - think of all those stabilised old lenses for starters !

........ an unnecessary change going to the increased bulk of 35mm sensor bodies would be a downgrade rather than an upgrade. Four or five years ago with the state of the sensor art as it was then I might have considered sacrificing portability for that extra sensor area but not now. And with every year that goes by my desire for a 35mm sensor reduces, even if one was cheaper than APSC I wouldn't want it today let alone tomorrow.I gave the weight / dimensions earlier in the thread, of the K5II and D600 (FF) - they are, for all intensive purposes the same.
Been looking at 150-500mm Sigma - Scratching issues

Lenscoat are the leading manufacturers of lens covers so their gear is good. I use the Chinese copies on all of my long lenses (not sure if the camo works or not as far as birds as concerned but it can't hinder and it certainly does a great job protecting the lens. I do feel it helps though, got to be better than a big black log being pointed in your direction) ! BTW as far as I am aware they are not made from neoprene but some type of cloth with elasticated bands to secure them (at least the Chinese ones are, at 3x the price I haven't bought a Lenscoat). Whatever they are made of they are better than nothing and have always worked well for me !

[quote:3496ace15f="MattyH"]The Nikon is a great camera, if a bit of a brick compared to a Pentax.Sometimes in these debates there is the truth, there is what people believe to be the truth and there is hyperbole. Having had 2 K5s and now a D600 and D800 I can tell you that the D600 feels VERY much like the K5 whilst the D800 is a little bit heavier and a little bit bigger, than the D600. Here are the facts (K5 vs D600) : 760g vs 850g (yep just 90g). 131x97x72 mm vs 141x113x82 mm (so 1cm x 1.5cms x 1 cm). Put your fingers together to see just what 1cm means. For all intensive purposes, no difference. Just pick the camera that meets your needs. If you are not getting the results you are expecting then look first at yourself, RTFM (again) and only then maybe see if another system can offer you something more in tune with your style of shooting. The FF offers some advantages, but if those advantages are not attuned to your subject matter then it may not offer you any major advantage worth the extra expense over the system you are using now.
So here is why I can no longer afford the 31mm/43mm/77mm
