Threats should not be taken lightly, particularly when this member delibrately tried to implicate my relationship with my tutors

It 'not being taken seriously' is about as reasonable as i would expect from the person involved actually

I.e - not reasonable at all

here is the email i recieved

You have published on the internet via the Pentax User Forum remarks about me that are erroneous, untrue and libellous.

If they are not removed within 24 hours from the time of the sending of this message (14:26 on Sunday 6th September 2009) I will instruct solicitors to begin an action against you, I will pass on the name and address of your art school to them for correspondence. Make no mistake about how seriously I view your accusations.

The person could not even tell me at which point in the conversation he was uphappy about

It is sad individuals like this who turn this forum from a friendly nice place to a horrid place at times IMHO

A member of this forum has threatened to take me to court for 'slander' now i would like to know what the forums views on that are as obviously if i am going to court for something posted on the forum, there would have to be representatives there along with of course, someone to explain why slander was actively allowed on the website

could anyone enlighten me?

Cheers

i dont own any lenses - i have just sold me 16-45mm and my 50-300mm and my 50mm too

which i would have done anyway if i were sticking with Pentax, i would have bought the top spec pentax lenses and a K-7 but after researching it i decided on the D700 - it was time for an upgrade anyway for sure

i took time to reply to Gartmore and he totally disregarded everything i had to say, how is that anything but impolite? and there i was looking forward to having a NICE conversation with somebody and that has been impossible - again

sorry i wont bother anymore

i am choosing Nikon because i am an underachieving, rubbish photographer with no career ahead of me and no point to my life

i am going to waste thousands of pound on useless equipment which is silly because really i should be using PinHole cameras to create portraits as thats all i am good for really

Now you have had what you wanted Pentax Users and i now i will stand here for a bit whilst you point, laugh and make yourselves feel better

and i hope it works

oh i am sorry, this forum has its own version of manners of course, where putting someone down, suggesting they dont know what they are doing and disregarding what they say is just FINE

well in the real world, its not fine its mean

If you wanted to discuss my choice properly you would have reacted with politeness and respect, you chose to use neither

I looked at all the cameras i could afford, the 5d MrIII the D700 and the K-7 - completely without biased i chose the D700

that shouldnt mean i am a 'worse' photographer for making that choice, you are telling me not to think about brand when it is ALL You think about! Perhaps this was based on specs rather than brand??? I am not swayed by popular opinion or i would have started out with a 40D! not a Pentax K10D but i looked at all the specs and it was the best entry level DSLR avaliable

but its not the best camera avaliable for my price range, now - and before i spend thosands on lenses i wanted to choose the right body

if you think i made a bad choice, well thats a reasonable and valid point

but dont tell me i am a rubbish photographer, that my skills cant possibly be improved and casually ignore me answering your questions

I am suprised you are a teacher Gartmore, my teacher is a kind sweet and positive man who i am honoured to be studying under

today is another day for thanking my lucky stars that i get taught by such lovely, caring and open minded people

Oh sorry Gartmore, i assumed we were having a polite conversation - obviously i was mistaken

MY ISO levels were not off thank you, i am well aware of what ISO does and how it works and that i had set it correctly

Yes the camera HAS overexposed a number of times but that was one example i was using, obviously a very valid one due to the light meter

Changing Brands doesnt come into it thats the point! i have looked for a camera that fits my needs and the one that fitted most of them, on this occasion was the Nikon, whatever badge it has is irrelevant - fact is that when i researched a new camera from stratch - the Nikon came up trumps

its NOTHING TO DO WITH BRAND

Feeb, when people have asked my advice on which camera to buy I have always advised them, all things being equallish, to buy the one they feel happiest with and they'll take better pictures with it, so good luck to you with your new choice.
Thank you, i am very excited about getting it

A couple of things you've said do niggle me so please explain..
Sure no problem

In the situation you describe using a light meter, you've taken a reading and transferred the aperture and shutter values to the camera. How can the camera then overexpose? Either you metered incorrectly or some setting was off..
Nope, i metered fine thank you - and none of the settings were off - for some reason the camera just chose to over-expose my shoot NOT what i expect for a piece of kit. I inputted the values in the Pentax same as i did in the film camera i was using and guess which one came out wrong...

I found your reference to Diane Arbus rather glib. In 1962 she stopped using a Nikon, isn't that ironic, and started using a Rollieflex and later a Mamiyaflex. The reasons were nothing to do with better image quality from negative size or lenses but a conscious desire to work in a radically different way leaving the style she had been taught by Lisette Model of snatched candid imagery to a new one where the method of working demanded a direct relationship between photographer and subject..
Exactly, photographers strive to make the best art they can and use the best resources they can find/afford to make that happy - i wasnt suggesting it was anything to do with branding - far from it infact, simple that the style of a photographer can be honed more easily with suitable kit. We are on exactly the same page with this, i am just sorry you didnt understand that from my earlier post.

Are you a student or a professional photographer? As someone who teaches at degree level I find it difficult to understand how the consideable demands of higher education would allow you the time to a have a professional career as well..
I am, first and foremost a student, i do take jobs when people approach me and i do my best to work with a wide selection of people to get different shoots going and relationships built. To me the summer is for shooting and the winter is for learning (at the moment) when i finish my degree in 2012 i hope to be in a posistion to become a full time professional photographer - everything else inbetween is leading up to that goal and the learning process is the most important part.

It worries me when someone implies they have mastered outdoor lighting or something and makes me think that they haven't even begun to understand one thing about it.
Thats good, because i have never implied anything of the sort - i know i have a long way to go, its why i have paid the good people at The Salisbury School of Art 3 grand to assist my learning for another year, but learning at college is all about what you put in, i learnt an awful lot of techincal skill, lighting ability and so on whilst at uni this year, so the summer was about putting that into practise, getting out there and achieved what i could with the information and the beginnings of learning that i was given - I doubt i will master photography in my lifetime! but i will try and i can certainly produce the images i have produced sucessfully in a fashion shoot again and again regardless of the variables - now its time to hone and improve that skill, but the beginnings are there - which is the important bit

On Friday and Saturday I had lunch with different photographer pals. A varied bunch who shoot 5x4, a Contax 645 with a Leaf back, Canons, Nikons, Leicas etc. We talked constantly, excitedly and sometimes contentedly about photography and do you know what? No one mentioned a camera brand once.
Thats because its very little to do with it, people are going to be attracted to different things, i was attracted to Pentax because of its robustness and Image Quailty and those are still qualities i continue to rate pentax for - unfortunatly other issues have cropped up and as pointed out on this thread - before i spend loads of money on lenses and stuff and took it up a level - i needed to make a decision on what camera to buy

Unfortunatly, this time round, Pentax didnt offer me what i wanted

perhaps next time i need to upgrade it will but i think the D3 will be the obvious follow on....

difference is Nathan, K10D isnt trying to prove anything to me or make me feel small or bad, hes just showing me what wonderful art he can make

its really nothing to do with the camera - its all about him
feeb, you flatter me! I'm all blushed up! My eye is better than my photography, believe me. Reading these post's in between packing! As usual, one camera not enough so I'm also taking my Minolta 7Hi and my Fuji EXR200. One day I'll carry an SLR about, another I can't be bothered but will throw a ZLR over my shoulder or a pocket machine in the bum bag.

Just have a look what a ZLR will do..

I am sure they were all with the 7Hi but the last may have been my Oly C3040Z but you will be too young to remeber that one.

Regards
you remind me of my friend Tony, he has a hoard of funky little film cameras he lugs about - makes some wonderful art with them though

I have been showing my friends the faery - its sooo beautiful - would you sell a print of it?
