I noticed at the weekend that Currys and Jessops are both selling the last of the *ist DL2 (IIRC) for under £350 at the moment with the 18-55mm.

I would probably spend a bit more and get the k110D or K100. but if your budget is tight that may be a better option.

Hi,

Kenko make AF tubes with a Pentax fit, but to be honest, if you are going to be doing any serious macro work, then you will probably find that you'll get more accurate results manually focussing. I've taken shots where the depth of field is less than 1/10 mm, although that's at around 5x magnification.
I bought a set Kenko tubes from College Cameras (http://www.collegecameras.co.uk/), but they are not AF. They have all the connections for exposure etc but no drive connection for the focusing. Maybe I have a ‘non AF’ set, but I suspect it is a case of AF compatible being marketed as AF.

They are good tubes though and I doubt I would ever use auto focus for macro work anyway.

Sorry, I did not realise that there was a difference in the RAW files produced by the different Pentax cameras.

I have 1GB of Ram in my iMac.

I am not convinced aperture is the best bit of software to use (too slow on my 2GHz G5 iMac for a start), but the latest update from Apple has made it compatible with RAW files produced by my *ist D.

Early days (pre teens) I was happy with my Zenith B and standard 50. I went via Praktica BCA & BC1 to a Chinon CP7m with 35-70 when I started earning and used that combo for about 10 years (now on long term loan to my Dad and still going strong)

Now in the digital age and more in to my photography I find it hard to leave the full kit bag behind, but if I must the *istD and 16-45mm DA is my minimum kit and a great combo.

Most of the time though I try and break my back by carrying a lowepro photo trekker around with the following:

*istD
Battery grip
MZ-6/ZX-L
AF360FGZ
50mm f/1.4 F
16-45mm DA
28-90mm FA
80-320mm FA
Sigma 135-400 APO f/3.5-4.5
Kenko extension tubes
Kenko 1.5x converter
58 & 67mm Circular Polarising Filters
Cokin ND 4, ND Grad and IR filters
Manfrotto 055PROB with 488RC4 Ball Head
4GB of Flash Cards
Usual assortment of cleaning products.

Paranoia figures strongly in my psychological make-up so I would rather lug everything around than find my self in a good situation without the equipment to exploit it.

Probably planning, a less opportunistic approach a body and 2 lenses would be fine, but I need the exercise anyway!
