p153 of the manual or p155 of the PDF.
I wonder how much extra width this gives a lens. Looks like quite a bit. If I am using a 28mm lens with composition adjust what lens length would give me the same image without composition adjust...?

The 650D obviously has a few things the K30 doesn't, like the articulated screen and superior movie mode.
The Canons have better video capabilities
I know that some people don't like it because there is no external mic jack and that there is no button to activate video recording from photo mode (you have to select a different option from the wheel menu on the top). But neither of those have ever bothered me.
If I want to record video then I am generally in video mode. I'm not often in a situation where I am taking photos and then suddenly want to record video.
If you are a serious videographer then you will be most likely be using external sound (with an XLR mic) anyway. I've made various films with a friend of mine (he uses a Canon 7D) and the k-30 stands up very well against it.
We made this for a choreographer friend:

Best viewed in HD. The footage is probably 70% Canon 7D and 30% K-30. I can't pick one from the other in the final product. In this case we were not recording sound anyway so the mic issue didn't even come up.
One big advantage of the pentax is having shake reduction on all lenses during video. I tend to use older lenses so the having shake reduction when shooting hand held is a real boon.
Are there any other problems that people have had using the k-30 (or other pentax cameras) for video?

Looks neat - except :
'The 25,6cm (10.1”) HD Reality Display is powered by Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2, which automatically optimises every image. And with the fullest colour display, every scene is richer, brighter and more breathtakingly vibrant.'
Does this mean that every image gets contrasted and oversaturated and you can't turn this menace off ?
Any tablet you choose will have some screen calibration settings built in that are probably not under the user's control. I know that lots of people really didn't like the Galaxy S2 because the screen was supposed to be too saturated. This was then toned down a little with the s3 and the colours looked more natural.
This review of the s3 talks about all AMOLED screens having a slightly blue cast:

I doubt the sony blurb is anything more than this. They are just trying to make it sound exciting. But it might be worth testing it out in a shop before purchasing.
Good luck! It'd be nice for someone from the forum to win
Although I'm sad to say the photo I put in was from before my pentax days. It's this one:

Taken with a Canon Ixus 430.

wow what a debate
I am looking for a device that:
- connects to the internet by wifi and tethering to my 3G phone (no mobile contract needed)
- has an sd card facility for reviewing photos in the field.
(I don't need to edit photos)
- fairly sturdy as it will be in the campervan when we travel
- has reasonable sound for checking up bird species from online sites
- has a reasonable size screen. 10" is my preference I think
- the ability for note writing would be useful
Depending on your budget I'd suggest looking at the Sony Xperia Tablet Z. It is no cheaper than the ipad but it has the sd card slot and is water / dust proof so should prove much more suitable for carrying lots of photos around in a campervan.
At the other end of the market there are lots of rebranded or nobrand android tablets that will do the job fine. They are drastically cheaper than the ipad or xperia tablets so just don't expect them to be as snappy or reliable. For example this one can take an SD:

The tesco hudl is probably worth a look. It takes an sd card and should be higher quality than most android tablets in that price bracket but only has a 7" screen so not ideal for the OP.

How did you judge whether it was correct or not? Taking test shots at very wide apertures?
Thanks for the help

Buying a dedicated scanner myself is certainly an interesting option. If I end up shooting a lot of film it might even end up being cheaper...
You are right though that I was initially talking about services like snappysnaps etc.
I'll find a place that will do TIFF instead of jpeg next time and give it a go in lightroom. That should be an interesting first step anyway.

Looks like it can't be done in Lightroom.
This might be worth a look: AutoStitch
