Reuben, how is the G1 in low light, viewfinder and the photos?
I love the G1 viewfinder

In low light (or when you stop a manual lens down) the viewfinder
image gets brighter so you can still see to focus. The viewfinder
image does get a bit noiser and the refresh rate drops, but it's still
enough to focus. In fact, I prefer it to an optical one when it's really dark.

The downside is the images are quite noisy at high ISO (800+),
compared to Pentax cameras.

In general, I would say the G1 image quality is not as good as the
K20D but still pretty good.

The K20D has smoother tonality, higher resolution and better colours IMHO.
Overall a less "digital" look.

Interestingly, in AP tests the G1 had a higher resolution than the Nikon D300.

Rueben, is there a forum that comes anywhere close to this one aimed at the G1 or micro fourthirds users. I certainly will miss the useful comments from the guys and gals on this forum but looking on the net there only seems to be a fourthirds user forum that has a micro section

[quote:3496ace15f="johnriley"]I really doubt you'll see any improvement over the K100D. I suspect you'll see less subtelty and more noise at all levels.quote]

Do you thing so John. The write ups seem pretty good and seem to indicate that it would be an improvements over an entry level dSLR. Only time will tell I guess.

That's interesting - I should see a significant improvement over the K100D then. I very rarely need to go above ISO400 so hopefully shouldn't have too much of an issue

Stefan, the lack of micro four thirds lenses is not really an issue for me at the moment. The G1 will come with a 14-45 (28-90) and I'll get a 20mm prime (40mm). Later I'll save up for the 45-200 (90-400) and that really is all I'm interested in. There is however also a 45mm macro and a 14-140 (28 280) so pretty much everything is covered.
Reuben, as you say there are converters for most lens mounts to allow them to be used manual focus with the G1 and the magnified focus is a real benefit. I'll just have to decide which lenses are likely to be most useful/available at a reasonable price.

I considered the E-P1 but felt that it was inferior to the GF1. The e620 may be an option but the main advantage of the G1 for me is the reduced lens size - I will look at the e620 but it may not be much smaller than my old K100D!

I don't want to hijack your post but I have a 2x KAX macro teleplus MC7 for sale. Essentially a teleconverter that also allows the attached lens to focus to 1:1 for macro. It would be ideal with your 50mm prime - making it into a 100mm macro lens. I does mean that you'll loose 2 stops but it will retain your aperture control. PM me if interested

I am moving from Pentax to a Lumix G1 due to size basically. I have the following items left for sale:

Pentax-A SMC 1:1.7 50mm (Serial number 1312687)
Vivitar MC 24mm 1:2.8 (serial Number 99067674)
2x KAC Macro Teleplus MC7 (serial number 6310042)

They are all in good condition with caps but no boxes - they will be well packaged.
I don't have photos as I currently don't have a camera!

Open to offers

Thanks for all your suggestions
I have now decided to sell all my Pentax gear and get a Lumix G1. This will mean a higher spec camera, live view, about 40% reduction in size, RAW and JPEG capture. I did consider the GF1 but felt that I would miss a veiw finder (even if the G1 is an EVF it is still supposed to be pretty good).Just got to wait for them to come into stock.
This seemed to be the best compromise allowing me to continue to have an interchangable lens system with reduced size and weight.
I will miss the Pentax and it's ability to use older Pentax K lenses - this however has never been realised successfully for me though.
I really am not serious enough about my photography to carry my existing kit when walking.
Have really enjoyed my time on the pentaxuser/forum.
Best wishes to you all
