Thanks for the advice john , it made sense.

It is a good lens and I'm not selling it because i desperately need the cash , so i'll have a go on e-bay but set a sensible reserve, I don't need to give it away, if you know what i mean.

cheers.

To s/h Lens experts.

Am I asking/expecting too much for this well regarded , fairly new and mint example ?

As the thread title says I have a Pentax SMC DA 40mm F2.8 Limited Camera lens for sale.

An impulse puchase , bought about 7 months ago when i got my first Digital SLR. I have all the original Packaging and other bumph that came with it. I also purchased a Hoya (0)UV filter at the same time as the lens, (£12.99) fitted it as soon as i got it and have never taken it off since.

I would describe the lens condiion as absolutely mint, very, very low use and never taken out in adverse weather conditions. If you were to place this lens next to one straight of the factory production line then I'm sure you wouldn't be able to tell which one was which- its that good. The glass lenses have never been cleaned with a cloth or brush or anything like that as they've never needed it. At most i would have given the inner one a small blast with an aerosol can duster to remove any specks of dust during lens changing. I've only ever used it in AF mode, so not actually operated it manually.
Even the box is mint.

Looking at my Original sales reciept i see that I paid £237 for it, + £13 for the 49mm filter so £250 . I've looked around and see that the prices for these items haven't gone down at all in the last 7 months so I'd be looking to re-coup quite a lot of my initial financial outlay, especialy given its condition.

I reckon £175 to include special delivery to a UK address would be a fair price. I'd prefer to sell here before e-baying it.

What say you ?

Edit: I live near to St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. I'd be happy for you ( or your agent) to inspect & pay cash in person at my house.

Thanks for the reply Matt, will look into this, although having a quick gander on e-bay £15 seems a bit optimistic...

Hello folks,

My first post here, but I've been dropping in for a look & lurk for a while now.

After seeing some fantastic macro photo's via links posted here i thought i would like to give it a go, hopefully by using some of the lenses that i already own.
My Camera is a Samsung GX-1L and i have the Schnider 18 -55 & 50 -200 bundle lenses plus a Pentax SMC 40mm DA limited 'pankake' lens.
(Not being used to using and carrying around an SLR i found it very bulky at first with the zooms fitted and although the 40 DA was expensive it has turned my New DSLR into one of the most compact DSLR point'n'shoot 'compacts' on the market especially in green button mode).

I digress,
After doing some reading and a bit of e-baying I've got some adaptors for use with my existing kit namely ;
i) a Pentax K mount to 52mm adaptor for reversing a lens onto the body.
ii) a 52mm to 52mm coupling ring for connecting 2 x lenses face to face with one being used in reverse. ( same size filter threads)
iii) a 52mm to 49mm coupling ring for doing the same with lenses of differing filter thread sizes.

I have found that when the lenses that i have are off the camera body the appeture diaphram blades close to their smallest dimension making it impossible to see through the reversed lens. I can get over this by manually opening the blades using a little metal lever that sticks out of the lens. Obviously this is a little impractical to do all of the time and I'm not sure whether it would damage the lens anyway.
Any solutions from you experts. I've not really got a lot (any) of spare cash to spalsh out on a dedicated macro lens and am confident that i should be able to achieve what i want with my existing gear, or at last have a try.

I've not had the Camera that long nor even got the hang of taking 'normal' photographs yet , but seeing the macro photos intrigued me enough to see if i could have a go .

Looks like you've got a nice friendly discussion forum here, so thought i'd ask the experts...

Tim.
