As the thread title says I have a Pentax SMC DA 40mm F2.8 Limited Camera lens for sale.

An impulse puchase , bought about 7 months ago when i got my first Digital SLR. I have all the original Packaging and other bumph that came with it. I also purchased a Hoya (0)UV filter at the same time as the lens, (£12.99) fitted it as soon as i got it and have never taken it off since.

I would describe the lens condiion as absolutely mint, very, very low use and never taken out in adverse weather conditions. If you were to place this lens next to one straight of the factory production line then I'm sure you wouldn't be able to tell which one was which- its that good. The glass lenses have never been cleaned with a cloth or brush or anything like that as they've never needed it. At most i would have given the inner one a small blast with an aerosol can duster to remove any specks of dust during lens changing. I've only ever used it in AF mode, so not actually operated it manually.
Even the box is mint.

Looking at my Original sales reciept i see that I paid £237 for it, + £13 for the 49mm filter so £250 . I've looked around and see that the prices for these items haven't gone down at all in the last 7 months so I'd be looking to re-coup quite a lot of my initial financial outlay, especialy given its condition.

I reckon £175 to include special delivery to a UK address would be a fair price. I'd prefer to sell here before e-baying it.

What say you ?

Edit: I live near to St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. I'd be happy for you ( or your agent) to inspect & pay cash in person at my house.

To s/h Lens experts.

Am I asking/expecting too much for this well regarded , fairly new and mint example ?

Personally, at that price it doesn't attract me, even though I'm a totally hopeless for buying lenses I don't need. A 60mm-equivalent lens gives me nothing my 50mm f1.4 won't.

If someone wanted one, presumably for its compact, high quality aspects, then it's a case os supply and demand. It's worth what the buyer can be persuaded to pay.

If I were putting such a lens on eBay I would give the description and photos my best shot, start it at £20 and hope for the best. This usually works out just fine, but I take no responsibility whatsoever if you try it and it doesn't.....

Good luck!

Best regards, John

Thanks for the advice john , it made sense.

It is a good lens and I'm not selling it because i desperately need the cash , so i'll have a go on e-bay but set a sensible reserve, I don't need to give it away, if you know what i mean.

cheers.
