Hi, on my compact camera I usually find the bright/dark area warning very useful to prevent blown highlights. I havn't come across this on the K10.

Hi guys, you've made me realise that I'm paying much to much attention to the in camera histogram. I've been deciding on keepers based on the histogram even before viewing the photo ! I shall certainly stop doing that and concentrate more on composing the picture then reviewing it later on the computer.

Hi guys, I don't know what your average number of photos per day is but on a trip into the mountains I usually come home with just over 100. From these I may have 10-15 keepers. What I find myself increasingly doing is using the histogram straight after a shot and then deciding if it's a keeper or not. Yesterday no matter how many different settings I used for this one scene I couldn't get a decent looking histogram. It was daylight, quite good daylight but the histogram showed a flat line along the bottom and a spike on the highlight side. On the basis of the histogram I kept deleting each attempt in the camera. It was only on getting home that I thought how could I be sure they weren't any good ? Is looking at the histogram a reliable way of prechecking whether a photo is any good or not ?

Hi guys, I'm using Pentax manual lenses with my K10 and was wondering if it's possible to get ND filters to fit ? Can I get a holder and square type filters to fit that will also fit AF lenses should I choose to get any ?

AND, in M mode I set the aperture with the dial, press the green button, and hey presto, it sets the speed !!! BRILLIANT.

Ah brilliant ! Just put the aperture ring on A as suggested and yes, I can now use the dial to change aperture ! This is especially good for me because the lens is a bit stiff to operate anyway and especially between 8-22 when you have to fiddle with a little release button. There it's really fiddly and sometimes sticks !

ya made my day, thanks.

Hi guys, my 50mm does have an A setting after f22. Do I need to use it for anything.
The 28mm doesn't have an A setting so if I set the exposure and hit the green button the camera will choose the correct speed ? But in AV mode doesn't it do that anyway ?

Hi, not sure if they are K mount ! I just adjusted for them in the menu, swtiched to MF, and away I went.
And I see the green button, but not quite sure what it's for ? Anyone able to explain in the simplest language possible please ?

Thanks for the replies, as with any purchase I have to warrant the expense in terms of any benefits.
I like the 16 end of the lens as it suits a lot of landscape type photos I take. Also the autofocus is a plus. I have the original kit lens and so I know how good it is to have AF. I get good results with my MF lenses but after a long day focusing through the eyepiece it can become tiring. (split screen would help but that would be added expense) The zoom would be a plus but to be honest I don't miss the zoom as much as AF. I guess I would also always have the 50mm 1.7 should I need something in low light.
I'm tempted for sure and prices are good at the moment.

Hi guys, newish to the forum and newish to DSLR's. I have a K10 and use 2 manual lenses, 50mm 1.7 and 28mm 3.5. I've been looking at the 16-45 and wanted to ask you guys besides the wider end, which I like, are there any advantages or disadvantages I should expect over my 2 manual lenses ?
