Wonderful, thanks for the history of Oban's most prominent land mark. Somewhere in my collection of old colour slides I have a sunset scene shot from inside the tower.

Fantastic image,both for its historical interest and also for its graphic quality. When petrol was that price what was the average weekly wge for a working man? Maybe a fiver a week?
