Beautifully rendered with simple, uncluttered composition. Nothing distracts from the clean lines of the bird while the water, while having interesting texture, acts as a subtle backdrop. Most of that is down to the photographer, whatever gear used.

Saw this in full fat colour on TV on New Year's night and was amazed. I never thought it would work in mono but you've made do so.
