Another intresting point from a retailers perspective are the guarantees issued with cameras. Is now EEC law that all purchasers of products such as cameras get a TWO YEAR guarantee this is the retailers responsibility. Now all the watch companies I know of both Swiss and Japenese give a two year guarantee with each product that is a manufactures guarantee. Now ask a member os staff in camera shops of electrical retailers and I have done this on a number of occassions recently and they will usually insist that there is only a one year guarantee. Now is this ignorance or a management policy to decieve I dont know but all of you who have purchased a camera recently hang on to your retailres reciept as well as the standard manufactures warranty.

The problem here is the power of the brand over the reailers. I have been in the retail business for over twenty five years now, jewellery and watches not photographic. I was talking to the manager of one of the last independant photographic retailers in this area and he told me that now Cannon were demanding that they spend a minimum amount with them a year or loose the brand. The could not hope to meet this demand so would not be selling the brand in the future. Cannon will also put pressure on the larger retailers by offering better discounts for larger orders so the retailers put pressure on their staff to sell them. Companies may offer inducements to the staff in the shops to sell their products such as gifts such as short holidays etc. i.e. meet the targets. The big watch brands operate the same way and offer the best rewards to the larger retailers. Cannon are now almost at a point that they could almost operate with any high street retailers we may be seeing the future.

I have had an initial try with the 10D and the results are not good. I have had some superb resilts from my D and was hoping for similar from the 10D but not so I,afraid. Back in the dark age I used to carry two camera bodies when out and about the Z1 with colour slide film and an old ME Super with black and white film loaded it was never a big hardship due to the small size and weight of the ME super. Now it looks as though my D will have to come as well as the 10D on any days out. Not that I'm unhappy with the 10D the results are superb particually the shake reduction but I did pick up the negleted D when I did the infra red test and I did still feel very good in my hand.

I have adapted my old cable switch F for my istD this has a lock on it so extending John method of using a manuel focus lens. You can lock the shutter release on and even leave the camera and as long as the battery holds out and it will fire when something or someone comes into focus.
The adaption is quite easy following Matts instructions on using a 2.5mm phono plug.

Matt

Thanks for the link Matt I set it up last night and it works a treat and is very easy to switch from colour to monochrome.

Is the hot pixel removal you mention a recent add on or have not found it. Also can you add to the meta data in CS.

Thanks again .

I must support Matt on this one I purchased Capture One LE on his advise in a previous post and find it far superier to the CS plug in so many ways. You can view the images without conversion, view two images side by side and instantly see them in monochrome. In fact the monochrome view is so good that I wish there was a way to save the converted file in monochrome.
I dont know what extras you get in the full version for £399.00 but the LE version gives me everything I can imagine I need.

I have to agree that with smaller apatures F8 and smaller the depth of field preview is not much help. However I do find it an excellent tool with close up, work which I do a lot when I require a very limited depth of field for creative reasons with a very particular area in focus and the rest out of focus. Often just half a stop one way or the other makes a difference and can be seen easily with the depth of field preview at the larger apatures I use.
