Is it possible for a lens to have a fault which makes it flare more than it should?
I've just had my beloved Samsung 12-24 replaced for a brand-new Pentax version, but it doesn't seem to have any flare resistance at all and it seems to hunt for focus in silhouette situations.

Thanks Matt, unfortunately the manual is password-protected.
I'll keep looking...

That's a good idea Carl, although I think I'll have a go myself. I just need to get some high-quality watch-maker's screwdriver as the things I found in the 'useful drawer' instantly rounded off
JPSS are £150 plus spares also. I feel a new career coming on
BTW, a little screw did fall out

Ha! as I was fiddling with it, trying to listen for loose screws, it just fell apart in my hand...
Anyone come across this? Ar you any the wiser?

Just thinking out load...
I'm pretty handy and went to engineering college; how difficult are these things to repair?
The FAs are fairly simple aren't they? If I drop out the front element will I have to re-centre it etc. or will it stay in it's housing and go back in the way it came out?
Can anyone point me at service documents or drawings please?

Being sharp wide open right out to the corners doesn't sound like a recipe for exquisite portraits (even if you could find a flattering angle this wide), but it might be a great wedding lens or evening events.
still waiting for our guys to report back....

My beloved 77 has, for no apparent reason, gone all loose and won't focus. I assume something has rattled loose inside. The front element has about 5mm free movement in and out.
Did a search here for lens repairers with no joy.
I don't want this gem sent out to just anyone. I'm assuming it's best to send it to Pentax themselves?
Anybody got advice about repairers who really know their stuff, and particularly this lens?
Thanks...
