The only one I can think of there is the Ricoh lens - I know that some of their products have an extra pin which jams in Pentax AF screw drives.

I think your best bet is to take the lens off, inspect the AF drive, and assuming it appears ok then try remounting the kit lens and then flicking from AF to MF and back. If none of these solve it then I think you're looking at a Pentax Service job.

I don't think these later bodies had foam light seals? None of mine (SF7, SFX, P30t) do and there's no sign of them originally being present. I think Pentax had managed to develop the design of the door edges to the point where the foam wasn't needed.

Ahhh! That explains it. I thought it was down to me struggling to see the in focus indicator in strong daylight!

I'm not sure how much difference it makes to the big zoom. I mainly bought it as I had a mint lens in a tidy original case, so it was worth having the hood to get a bit closer to completing the set. Plus it looks very cool having this huge black drainpipe of a lens complete with hood. You wouldn't believe the looks I was getting up in the Elan Valley today while resting my elbows on the stonework and sighting on distant subjects!

Still looking for the attachment (closeup) lens although I do not rate my chances of finding one in similarly mint condition.

These do not seem common - in the month or so since I bought mine I haven't even found a completed auction listing. I guess they were a bit too close to the 135mm in field of view to sell especially well. There was an M version with a built in hood too, this is the original K series:

Which came to me with some paint scuffs but perfect optics for £65. It's now in the gear bag due to being faster than the M 135mm f3.5. A comparative shot of the two:

I've since sourced the correct "crinkle" finish lens cap for the K series, just makes it easier to identify at a glance (and I like the original pattern).

So, enough photos of the lens, how about a couple of tests with the lens?

I'm currently recovering from an obnoxious variety of flu, so haven't been able to get out of the house much. This gardenia is currently next to the kitchen sink:

The garden wall:

A holly bush:

Wonky focus (as on 1 and 3) should be sorted when my new split focussing screen turns up. Otherwise, I think it's a great lens performing in much the same way as any other K series. The colour reproduction tends towards natural shades instead of artificial vibrancy and it seems pretty sharp at all apertures. If you ever see one, buy it. A keeper!

The K 135mm f2.5 is a bit of a beast isn't it! One of those is on my wish list if I ever see one when I have a few quid to spare.

Incidentally, if you don't have the original clip-on lens hood then I think there's an ebay seller in Canada who had a handful. I bought one for my 85-210mm f4.5 (same hood, also fits 200mm f4) from them.

That wouldn't be a Lubitel 166U (or variant thereof) would it Kris? I've got one of those complete with the original Russian documentation, thankfully English instructions were added by the importers!

A very odd piece of kit, I think I ran about two rolls of film through it before getting bored and going back to 35mm. Even my K1000 had a built in light meter, after all...

I've seen weirder - 40mm on a K1000? Sure I've seen at least one such ebay lot!

Not a chance . This was all packed by my ever helpful Mother-in-law when her friends didn't have room - it was " Oh there's room in my attic " and it got stuffed full. I hate the pull down ladder so wait for the kids coming up to do it for me You would be surprised at the tatty old rubbish furniture she stored up there - none is valuable , charities won't take it - so it's going in the skip [ at the end of May now ] My husband kept muttering that we would have to deal with the attic - but kept adding to it

Now the time has come

Sorry - even Leffe's not a good enough bribe
That's the sort of thing that really winds me up - there may be room, but it's your attic, not hers to offer!

Autoglass eventually arrived at 3pm, windscreen now replaced. If I feel better tomorrow I might try going out to take some photos.

Currently waiting for Autoglass and hoping it doesn't rain. I'm sure they were down to come at 10am, got a call at about 11am saying they'd be here at half 2. Skies are not a particularly friendly shade of grey here.

Of course, it wasn't raining during the hours they were originally booked to come. Just have to hope the weather holds!
